Physics Teacher | Good Secondary School | Havering

Marchant Recruitment
Havering, Greater London

The Opportunity

Havering is a borough that uniquely bridges the urban energy of East London with the green expanses of the Essex countryside, positioned perfectly near the tech and engineering hubs of the Thames Gateway. We are seeking an intellectually curious and technically skilled Physics Teacher to join a 'Good' secondary school . In this role, you will inspire students to look beyond the surface of the physical world, from the mechanics of local infrastructure to the vast complexities of astrophysics.

The Department & Scientific Culture

  • You will be part of a collaborative Science faculty that prioritizes "hands-on, minds-on" learning, where the laboratory is a space for discovery and rigorous testing.

  • The department features specialized Physics labs equipped for experiments in electromagnetism, wave optics, and thermal physics, supported by a dedicated technical team.

  • As a 'Good' school, we focus on making Physics accessible and exciting, utilizing modern data-logging equipment and simulations to visualize abstract concepts.

  • The department is a hub for STEM initiative, running popular extracurricular clubs that focus on rocketry, robotics, and the "physics of sport."

Core Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Excellence: Teaching Physics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with opportunities to contribute to A-Level delivery for suitably qualified candidates.

  2. Mathematical Application: Guiding students through the quantitative demands of the curriculum, ensuring they can confidently manipulate formulae and interpret complex graphical data.

  3. Practical Leadership: Planning and executing safe, high-impact practical investigations that bring the laws of motion, energy, and electricity to life.

  4. Diagnostic Assessment: Utilizing regular low-stakes testing to identify and correct common misconceptions in particle model theory and field forces.

  5. STEM Advocacy: Promoting Physics-based career pathways, highlighting the borough's proximity to London’s engineering, telecommunications, and medical physics sectors.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who can explain the "how" and "why" of the universe with clarity and enthusiasm. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Physics or a related Engineering discipline.

  • Technical Authority: A deep understanding of the GCSE and A-Level Physics specifications and a commitment to maintaining rigorous laboratory safety standards.

  • Engagement & Inspiration: The ability to motivate students of all abilities, using real-world analogies to make the invisible forces of physics tangible.

  • Collaborative Spirit: A proactive professional who is eager to share resources and participate in the wider life of the Science department.

Why Join Us?

  • A school that values Science as a core pillar of the curriculum and provides a supportive environment for professional growth.

  • Access to specialized professional development through East London and Essex teaching school hubs.

  • The opportunity to work in Havering—a borough offering excellent transport links into Central London via the Elizabeth Line, paired with affordable living and extensive parklands.

  • A warm, inclusive staff culture where innovation in the classroom is encouraged and student achievement is celebrated.
