Head of Productivity Suite Engineering Lead - AI

HSBC Global Services Limited
London

Ready to evolve HPS from chat to agentic productivity at global scale?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

This Director level role oversees the engineering organisation for HSBC Productivity Suite (HPS) - a portfolio of AI-enabled productivity solutions used by colleagues across the bank. You’ll own delivery, operational performance and the technical evolution of HPS including the transition from a primarily chat-based solution towards more agentic and autonomous capabilities. The role covers around 50 engineers across the UK, China, India and Poland with around 6-7 team leads reporting directly. Working in partnership with Product and the wider Technology organisation you’ll translate roadmap priorities into secure, scalable and well controlled production outcomes. Success means valuable personal-agent capabilities delivered for colleagues alongside stronger engineering pace, quality and operational performance in a regulated environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Oversee delivery of the HPS engineering roadmap in partnership with Product and wider Technology
  • Steer the transition of HPS towards personal-agent and agentic AI capabilities
  • Set technical direction across applications, AI and Agentic AI, platforms, architecture, data, APIs and developer tooling
  • Deliver secure, scalable, reliable and resilient production systems with strong support, monitoring and incident management
  • Embed engineering practices across design, testing, automation, DevSecOps and observability to improve pace and quality while managing cost
  • Maintain robust technology, privacy, model-risk, cyber, compliance and operational controls
  • Build and sustain an inclusive global engineering organisation across the UK, China, India and Poland including team structure and ways of working
  • Develop technical talent through coaching, role modelling and clear expectations for engineering standards and delivery outcomes
  • Make technology choices that remain relevant as the AI landscape evolves balancing innovation with responsible AI and production standards

What we're looking for

  • Bring substantial hands-on software engineering experience turning concepts into enterprise-grade products
  • Show proven experience delivering and operating large-scale AI-enabled production systems including GenAI applications
  • Demonstrate expertise in LLM-based applications, personal agents, agentic workflows and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Apply practical experience with model evaluation, safety guardrails and responsible AI in production
  • Use hands-on engineering skills across Python, APIs, microservices, databases, cloud platforms, containers and Kubernetes
  • Establish DevSecOps, automated testing, observability and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices for reliable production operations
  • Set architecture, engineering standards and technical direction for complex systems with clear trade-offs and operational accountability
  • Manage delivery across distributed, multi-country engineering teams and partner with Product Owners on roadmaps and measurable outcomes

Building Agentic Productivity at HSBC

HPS is on a clear journey from chat-based assistance to personal-agent capabilities that help colleagues get more done with less friction. This role shapes the engineering direction and delivery that makes that transition real and safe at scale. You’ll work closely with Product to turn priorities into robust production outcomes while strengthening engineering pace, quality and operational performance. If you want to build agentic AI capabilities that are secure, well controlled and genuinely useful for colleagues we’d welcome your application.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we’re dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic background or age. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
