Development Engineer

This pivotal role will serve as the crucial link between their customers and their world-class engineering team. The Dual Focus: Customer-Centric Innovation You will be instrumental in two key areas:

• Customer Value Discovery: Communicate on a technical level with customers and the Sales Team to deeply understand their challenges and identify where our client can add maximum value.
• Internal Engineering Support: Work closely with and support the internal team to ensure the innovative products perfectly match evolving customer needs.
Your 'Hands-On' Responsibilities This is an opportunity for a proactive, results-driven problem-solver ready to jump into the action. You will:
• Solve Application Challenges: Engage directly with customers to offer bespoke, fit-for-purpose fiber optic solutions that solve their complex application needs.
• Lead Cutting-Edge Projects: Drive project and development work tailored to customer requirements, working with the Program Manager of Innovation to manage both internal and external initiatives.
• Advance Technology:
• Develop and refine test capabilities to better understand product performance, including characterising key fiber performance metrics for applications like bespoke polarisation maintaining fiber sensors.
• Analyse development results, identify performance gaps, and help develop the next generation of fiber products.
• Actively implement experiments and practical solutions to expand our client's technical capabilities.
• Simulate fiber designs for next-gen and custom requests.
• Global Technical Support: Provide written and verbal technical support to the international sales team and distribution network.
• Contribute to the Future: Submit innovative ideas to grow the Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio and create high-quality technical reports and scientific articles for publication/presentation.

  A higher degree or PhD in an Optics/Photonics specialty, OR significant industrial experience in Optics.
• 'Hands-on' experience with optical fiber and optical equipment.
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining lab-based optical test systems.
• Proven ability to plan, execute, and analyse optical fiber systems and complex data, suggesting viable solutions.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills, capable of running multiple projects simultaneously.
Highly Desirable:
• Previous experience working with optical fiber sensing systems or polarisation maintaining fibers.
• Knowledge of the fiber fabrication process, particularly MCVD.
• Competency in coding languages: Python and VB.net.
