Digital Services Project Manager - Technical
Organisation: Local Government
Location: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week on-site (London)
Type: Interim / Contract | Immediate Start Our client is seeking an interim project manager to lead the delivery of its Infrastructure Network Modernisation Programme — a major transformation initiative to enhance digital infrastructure, operational efficiency, and hybrid working capability. Key Responsibilities * Manage the phased rollout of a new, cloud-managed network architecture across all sites, including main offices, libraries, and community hubs. * Oversee multiple technical workstreams: WLAN, LAN, WAN, and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). * Coordinate pilot implementations, vendor management, and wide-scale deployment of modern Wi-Fi and network solutions. * Lead upgrades of end-of-life switches and access points, improving security, scalability, and performance (e.g. Wi-Fi 6/6E, PoE++). * Drive the transition from legacy networks to a distributed, cloud-first model (Direct Internet Access, SD-WAN overlay, hybrid remote access). * Collaborate with Procurement teams on purchasing and supplier engagement. * Manage change through established Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes, ensuring governance and compliance. * Proactively manage risk, stakeholder engagement, and operational readiness to ensure smooth delivery and minimal disruption. Context * The existing environment includes Cisco and Aruba systems, with significant technical debt and single points of failure. * The programme aims to remove these bottlenecks, adopt zero-trust security principles, and deliver resilient internet access across all sites. * The delivery approach is agile, with multiple parallel workstreams and a focus on communication, change management, and benefits realisation. Candidate Profile * Proven experience delivering large-scale network and infrastructure transformation in complex, multi-site environments. * Strong understanding of cloud-managed architectures, SD-WAN, SASE, and zero-trust models. * Experience delivering infrastructure projects within the public sector, ideally local government. * Deep knowledge of procurement processes, statutory frameworks, and supplier engagement. * Strong governance, risk management, and stakeholder communication skills. * Ability to work collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and internal teams to deliver solutions on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
