An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Midwife for the PHYLLIS (Prevent from Home: Young women’s cardiovascuLar health Improvement feasibility Study) study.

PHYLLIS is an NIHR-funded feasibility study exploring novel engagement strategies (healthcare champions, homebased testing, study-buddies) for postnatal women with cardiovascular risk factors and will assess recruitment of women randomised after completing breastfeeding to take dapagliflozin or standard care. 

PHYLLIS-HT will be a sub-study within the main PHYLLIS feasibility study Women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy will participate and complete PHYLLIS-HT procedures, when they have stopped breastfeeding will be randomised to PHYLLIS main study. This is an opportunity to address an important research question in postpartum cardiovascular management, utilising the window of time from initial approach during pregnancy to randomisation of CTIMP (dapagliflozin).

We are looking for a midwife with previous research experience and recent experience of maternal medicine.

Main duties of the job

Study co-ordination. Recruitment to the study. Undertake study visits with research participants. Contribute to the Trial Management Group.

This post will be primariliy based at Denmark Hill but will require some cross site working with PRUH and South Sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Summary

The Clinical Research Midwife will be responsible for delivery of the PHYLLIS study being undertaken within the Women’s Health Research Delivery Unit (RDU3). 

The post holder will:

· Form part of the core team providing support to the Women’s Health research agenda.

· Provide expert research care and support to people attending the Department who have the potential to be recruited to clinical research.

· Complete research documentation and collect all study data from participants. Assist with regulatory and approval processes for the sutdy.

· Ensure research activity undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the participants and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other appropriate legislation, policy and protocol.

· Be an advocate for Women’s Health research across the Trust and within local research networks.

· Maintain strong working relationships with clinical colleagues to promote a positive research culture, evidence-based practice, and the growth of Women’s Health research.

· Take responsibility for performing all clinical research tasks, including the administration of experimental therapies and monitoring for expected and unexpected side effects, in a safe and timely manner. 

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • A track record of research
  • Evidence of ongoing and sustained CPD
  • Good Clinical Practice

Desirable criteria
  • Masters’ qualification or demonstrated ability to work at this level
  • Mentorship qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical research practice in Reproductive Health and Childbirth
  • Evidence of clinical midwifery practice and ability to function at X level required of the post
  • Leading the set-up and delivery of clinical trials
  • Experience of maternal medicine
  • Experience of data capture and database management
  • Evidence of research and or audit
  • Understanding of the local priorities within the local health X community
  • Knowledge of scientific conduct of clinical research including the X planning, co-ordination and conduct of clinical trials
  • Knowledge of quality standard setting and audit
  • Awareness of Equality and diversity issues

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and research governance, X including data protection
