To apply for this role you should identify as deaf, disabled or neurodivergent and must meet either the definition of disability in the Equality Act (2010), or the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) if applying in Northern Ireland. You’re broadly defined as disabled under both acts if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative or adverse effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. This definition includes both apparent and non-apparent conditions and impairments, and medical conditions such as Cancer, HIV or Multiple Sclerosis. We are committed to making the process of applying for this role as accessible as possible. If you need to discuss adjustments or access requirements for the application process, or have any questions about our Extend programme, please contact [email protected] . The BBC are fully committed to providing workplace adjustments to help eliminate barriers in the workface that disabled people face. To do this, we have our own dedicated BBC Access and Disability Service that provides assessments and support throughout employment with us. If you are successful in applying for this role and require workplace adjustments, we will work with you to get your adjustments in place. If you’d like more information on BBC Extend, please visit the BBC Extend webpage. EX2324 PURPOSE OF THE ROLE As Workplace Adjustments Leads, you will play a pivotal role in delivering real, practical change – actively supporting the implementation of adjustments from start to finish, from assessment to implementation. You’ll be the BBC’s central point of contact on workplace adjustments and work closely with employees, line managers, HR teams, and external partners to remove barriers, streamline processes, and ensure that adjustments are in place quickly and effectively. WHY JOIN THE TEAM The role will support our Workplace Adjustments Service Desk – a key initiative designed to improve the experience of deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent colleagues across the organisation. This service will act as the central point of contact for all workplace adjustment queries across the BBC Group, ensuring that colleagues and their managers receive consistent, expert guidance and timely support. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Be an operational lead for the new Workplace Adjustments Service Desk, serving as a central point of contact for all workplace adjustment queries across the BBC Group.
- Manage the central workplace adjustments fund, including approving funding requests, tracking spend, managing Access to Work funding allocations, and ensuring value for money in line with BBC financial governance.
- Act as an operational contact for BBC Access & Disability Services (BBC A&DS) – referring colleagues for specialist assessment when required, and acting as a point of escalation to help resolve concerns and unblock implementation issues.
- Provide subject matter expertise on workplace adjustments, offering guidance, signposting, and practical support to employees and managers, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external best practice. This includes supporting managers in implementing best practice for ‘soft’ workplace adjustments and advice on implementing them (e.g. flexible working, identifying training needs, or changing of working times).
- Oversee the implementation of adjustments, including the ordering, delivery, and installation of specialist equipment, and liaising with internal teams such as BBC Workplace, Assistive Technology, and Procurement.
- Support line managers in navigating the adjustments process, including soft adjustments, and build their confidence and capability through coaching and guidance.
- Support with other workforce disability inclusion projects as required.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:- You understand the Equality Act 2010 and how it applies to workplace adjustments.
- You’ve supported a wide range of adjustments – from specialist equipment and software to changes in working patterns or environments – and you understand how to tailor support to each individual.
- You’ve led the full process of adjustments: identifying needs, recommending options, arranging delivery or installation, and following up to check everything is working well.
- You’ve worked with different teams (like Facilities, Assistive Technology, or Procurement) to make sure adjustments are implemented smoothly and without delay.
- You’re confident managing multiple cases at once, keeping things organised and making sure every colleague gets the support they need.
- You’ve worked with budgets and funding – including Access to Work – and know how to track spend and make sure money is used wisely.
