History Teacher - Independent School - Kingston upon Thames

Are you an enthusiastic and knowledgeable History Teacher looking for a permanent position in a school where students are encouraged to think independently and engage deeply with the past? An independent school in Kingston upon Thames is looking for a committed teacher to join its Humanities Department.

You will teach History across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering a varied curriculum that allows students to explore significant events, individuals, societies and periods of change.

At KS3, you will help students develop a secure chronological understanding while introducing them to the importance of evidence, interpretation and historical enquiry. At GCSE, you will prepare students for source-based questions, interpretations and extended written responses.

The role requires someone who can make History engaging without losing the academic rigour of the subject. You will use primary sources, historical debate, case studies and carefully selected examples to encourage students to question evidence and form their own conclusions.

Regular assessment will be used to track progress, identify misconceptions and help students improve the quality of their written work. You will also support students with examination technique and the development of strong analytical responses.

History Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

  • History Degree or related subject

  • QTS or recognised teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching History at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4

  • GCSE History experience

  • Strong knowledge of historical periods and events

  • Confidence teaching source analysis and interpretations

  • Excellent written communication

  • Strong classroom management

  • Effective planning and assessment skills

  • Commitment to student progress

Salary

The salary for this History Teacher position will be paid to scale on MPS/UPS, depending on experience and qualifications.
