Assistant Underwriter - Construction and Engineering

About the role
- To provide underwriting analysis and administrative support to the underwriting Power Generation team in relation to the areas of underwriting, rating, credit control and reporting.
- To ensure that the interests of customers are taken into consideration at all times.
Key responsibilities
- To assist the underwriting team in all administrative and initial risk analysis aspects of the placement of underwriting risks within Syndicate 2121.
- To prepare risks for rating analysis and carry out pre underwriting initial assessment on submissions and lineslip declarations, as well as agreeing terms with brokers within an agreed underwriting authority, referring upwards as appropriate.
- Attend external presentations as appropriate, positively presenting Argenta and contributing to team knowledge base.
- To assist with servicing of the portfolio and the analysis of mid-term policy changes.
- To receive, review and within agreed underwriting authority sign and process the endorsement flow across the whole book, referring upwards as appropriate.
- To agree underwriting signing messages from X-Changing Ins-Sure Services Ltd.
- Assisting with the preparation of management information for reports, presentations and management of lineslips.
- To undertake general office administration.
- To liaise with brokers as necessary in relation to outstanding documentation or overdue premium.
- Undertake any other duties as maybe reasonably required.

Skills and experience
- A good academic, preferably STEM focused background and a sound understanding of the London Market and ideally previous experience within the Construction, Power or Energy insurance industry sectors.
- LM1 and LM2 completed ideally.
- Progress to ACII would be an advantage.
- A sound understanding of the underwriting function and role.
- An interest in the Construction and Engineering space and a desire to develop understanding and knowledge.
- A general understanding of Company, PRA, FCA, Lloyd’s and other Regulators’ compliance requirements.
- Accuracy and attention to detail in all dealings with Syndicate information.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
- Capable of developing and maintaining effective relationships at all levels.
- Competent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Competency in use of office IT applications including Excel.
