Software Engineering Lead
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Software Engineering Lead.
Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) Client Services is building inhouse solutions that support customer onboarding and KYC activities. This role sits at the centre of that work, building client-facing applications and orchestration capabilities that reduce the time it takes for clients and staff to complete onboarding and KYC. Success means delivering a first-in-class solution iteratively into the hands of users while helping teams replace legacy systems with modern services.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you will:
- Build and deliver inhouse onboarding and KYC products for CIB Client Services, from design through to production
- Design solutions using microservice architecture in close partnership with product to understand requirements and the impact of change
- Set a high-cadence delivery approach across new functionality and legacy replacement while maintaining quality in production
- Strengthen collaboration between engineering teams across regions to improve consistency and speed of delivery
- Embed engineering principles and contribute to engineering transformation across the global organisation
- Shape solution designs aligned to Future State Architecture, promoting component reuse and economies of scale
- Promote and embed AI capabilities to improve automation design across onboarding and KYC processes
- Integrate agentic solutions into the SDLC to improve delivery effectiveness and production quality
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Bring extensive experience building applications using non-breaking principles, particularly RESTful APIs
- Demonstrate established experience developing microservices using highly iterative methods and releasing to production regularly
- Apply deep Java experience, preferably with more recent versions such as 17 or higher
- Build and manage database schemas with substantial PostgreSQL experience
- Translate effectively between business outcomes and technical delivery through strong communication
- Develop and scale large high-performing engineering teams with a clear focus on team development
- Influence global engineering groups to evolve engineering mindset and culture
- Break down business requirements into incremental deliveries without large planning cycles
Opening up a world of opportunity.
