BUSINESS AREA / DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

In the UK, Global Banking focuses on 4 main business areas: Corporate Clients Group, Capital Markets, Low Carbon Transition Group and Transaction Banking.


This role sits within Capital Markets, which is a platform designed to provide a fully integrated offer across debt and equity, and work closer with its issuer and investor clients.

Real Estate Finance within CIB Capital Markets EMEA is responsible for the coverage of large listed REITS or other investment vehicles and major real estate funds and asset managers. The team promotes all products delivered by BNP Paribas and cross-selling essentially with Global Markets, ECM, Corporate Finance, Cash Management & Deposits, BNP Paribas Real Estate, and Securities Services. They are also responsible for the structuring of real estate specialised financing, their execution and distribution for clients, like PE Funds and Asset Managers for example, under REF’s coverage or under the coverage of other areas of the bank.

JOB PURPOSE

As an Associate, the role holder will be accountable for the delivery of routine but often complex activities in relation to transactions within their respective business area. They will be expected to support MDs, Directors and Vice Presidents by assisting on a full range of activities within Real Estate Capital Markets, including marketing, executing and regulation activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountable as an intermediate / developing professional within the Real Estate Capital Markets UK function for the delivery of routine activities to support the marketing, origination and execution of transactions / files such as:

Supporting day-to-day execution and project management of commercial Real Estate transactions; Assisting in the origination, structuring, execution and on‐going management of real estate financings; Assisting in marketing to clients, and ensuring high quality standards and reliability of all marketing materials; Thinks commercially about a client’s business and identify new business opportunities; Responsible for valuation / modelling; Challenges senior officers on both commercial and technical aspects of transactions; Undertakes viability analysis to establish the appropriateness of prospective financings; Ensures high quality standards and reliability of all materials and process execution (Due Diligence, credit approval, including Analysts’ work); and Works in cooperation with Credit Portfolio Management team, to help perform annual reviews and manage waivers and amendment requests;

Applies existing policies and procedures within established guidelines related to RECM to all tasks in order to reliably deliver routine outputs for clients with a high standard of quality. Interacts with internal parties in both marketing and execution with some autonomy to drive effective delivery of all tasks. Builds and maintains internal networks. Involved in client communication and has full autonomy for routine tasks, with appropriate oversight. Interacts directly with clients and with other advisors (lawyers, co-advisors, etc) at an appropriate level. Works under own initiative where possible, but refers more complex and technical issues to more senior colleagues in a timely manner for resolution and advice. Where appropriate, may delegate some tasks to junior team members, keeping them informed about marketing activities. Prioritises workload as required to support the team and achieve their personal development and growth objectives within agreed timescales. Collaborates with team members and other teams and begins to offer solutions to problems.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Professional qualification required with technical and broad understanding to an intermediate level of the Real Estate sector and client base. Previous relevant internship / work experience desirable. Relevant experience and knowledge of cash flow and rent roll modelling, term sheet and credit paper drafting, documentation review, and asset positioning analysis. Typically requires a university degree as an indicator of an ability to understand and apply complex theoretical concepts, although may have progressed into the role via equivalent business experience. Strong quantitative, analytical, and modelling skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Strong personal focus on accuracy and attention to detail and able to review and improve work of more junior colleagues. Good knowledge of BNPP, the industry, and its products / services, with a demonstrable capacity and willingness to continue to develop market awareness autonomously and to learn and improve performance. Ability to assume responsibility towards client satisfaction and helps develop client relationships at the appropriate level. Desire to develop market awareness and general business culture. Good written and oral English skills in order to articulate technical issues associated to work area. Able to coach and support colleagues in their performance and development. Computer literacy and a good knowledge of a range of standard computer software, e.g., Microsoft Office, email. Experience in using investment banking databases (e.g. Factset, Dealogic, Bloomberg). Good citizen behaviour, embody and practice the Group values (alignment with the Bank’s strategy, commitment, work ethics, integrity, Code of Conduct). Ability to operate within the Compliance framework imposed by the Bank and external regulators.
