About us:
The Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience (BCN) is situated in the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute on the Denmark Hill Campus. It is home to the UK Dementia Research Institute at Kings and the newly established UK Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Research Institute. Furthermore, by working closely with Kings College Hospital, Guys Hospital and St Thomas Hospital, we ensure novel treatments are both effective and practical.
Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience academics lead the Alzheimers Research UK London Network Centre and the mTOR Pathway Diseases node, part of the NIHR/MRC Rare Disease Research UK Platform.
We are aiming to have an exceptional world-class research in Neurodegeneration and Mechanisms of Mental Health, promoting collaboration, research integrity, respect and inclusivity. Our vision for education is to offer innovative research-led Neuroscience education aligned with BCN research interests and expertise. The goal is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and mindsets needed for success in their careers while contributing to the advancement of neuroscience and society.
About the role:
In order to strengthen our portfolio on Alzheimers research we are seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer (which equals an Associate Professor in international terms), who is an established Alzheimers researcher. We request that the candidate has published and obtained grant funding in the field of Alzheimers research. In particular, we are interested in recruiting in the area of mechanistic studies of Alzheimers disease with the long-term aim to develop novel treatments. We encourage candidates working with cell culture models or animal models to apply.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- PhD qualified in relevant subject area
- Proven track record of high-quality published research in the field of Alzheimers research as leading author
- Proven track record of attracting external funding as principal applicant in the area of Alzheimers research
- Proven ability to conduct and lead high-quality independent research as principal investigator and project leader in the field of Alzheimers research
- Experience of leading and managing research teams
- Experience in undergraduate or post graduate teaching and/or successful supervision of MPhil/PhD students
Desirable criteria
- Holder of a Higher Education Academy Fellowship, or equivalent.
- Proven ability to develop internal or external research collaborations
- Evidence of good citizenship in previous roles
