Electrical Systems Engineer

An exciting opportunity awaits you as Electrical Systems Engineer in our Rolling Stock team. The Electrical Systems Engineer is Eurostar’s technical expert for specific train electrical systems, ensuring they operate safely and reliably. They analyse faults, drive system improvements, support Production with technical guidance, and manage engineering changes, all while collaborating across departments and helping maintain fleet performance.
This is a permanent role is based on site at our Temple Mills depot in Leyton. There may be a requirement to be on call for this role.

Requirements
We’re looking for someone to:
- Act as the technical authority for assigned rolling stock systems, ensuring safe, reliable operation and compliance with EIL procedures.
- Monitor, investigate and resolve system performance issues using root‑cause analysis and data‑driven techniques.
- Provide technical support to Production teams, including developing fault‑finding guides and supporting non‑standard repairs.
- Lead and approve engineering changes, technical documentation and system updates, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement by enhancing maintenance regimes, reducing costs, improving safety, and increasing fleet availability.
- Represent Eurostar in technical discussions with internal stakeholders and external partners (e.g. suppliers, infrastructure operators).
- Support apprentices, graduates and colleagues by sharing expertise and maintaining personal technical competence.
- Participate in the on‑call engineering rota, responding to safety incidents and operational needs as required.
You'll need...
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/D or degree) or equivalent professional experience, with strong specialisation in electrical systems.
- Minimum 5 years’ engineering experience, ideally within rolling stock or a similar operational engineering environment.
- In‑depth knowledge of modern rolling stock electrical systems, able to read engineering drawings and apply industry standards (e.g. TSIs, NTSNs, CSM).
- Strong analytical skills, comfortable using Excel and other tools to interpret data, perform basic statistics and produce clear technical reports.
- Effective communicator and team player, able to work cross‑functionally, liaise with suppliers, and explain technical issues to non‑technical colleagues.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, manage projects, think system‑wide, and develop simple business cases or risk assessments when required.
