Southwark Adult Social Care is recruiting a locum Deputy Team Manager to start as soon as possible to join the Transfer of Care Team based at Jenni Lee House, near the Kings College Hospital site at Denmark Hill, London. The Deputy Team Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of social workers and their work products. This includes providing social work practice guidance and management oversight relating to case progression and management of – often complex – discharges, complaints and disputes, safeguarding and mental capacity. The post holder will take an active part in networking with NHS trust colleagues and form part of the management team overseeing team performance and attending regular discharge review meetings, updating the acute trust about discharge plans and responding to system escalations as pressures on acute trusts increase. A proven track-record of multidisciplinary working/close partnership working with other local authority colleagues/GPs/NHS and a sound understanding of ordinary residence and current out-of-hospital pathways is essential for this role. Good working knowledge of the Continuing Healthcare process and the relevant framework is essential for this role.
The post holder will be required to supervise 4-5 qualified social workers.
NOTE: This role requires the Deputy Team Manager to be in the office at Jenni Lee House with frontline colleagues on average 4 days per week. This role cannot be carried out working from home, apart from scope of approximately 1 day/week working from home for more administrative parts of the role
Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
To be a registered Social Worker with Social Work England. Post qualification training/award at higher or advanced level or equivalent expertise or experience in a relevant field.
Knowledge of current and proposed Social and Health Care legislation particularly that relating to adults. An appreciation and understanding of current issues in social work practice, social sciences and theory.
Excellent knowledge of safeguarding, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty legislation and best practice.
Experience:
Experience or knowledge of chairing safeguarding meetings, multi-agency cases and conferences.
Experience of safeguarding mental capacity, best interest and deprivation of liberty best practice.
To have experience of working with multiple agencies to facilitate holistic assessments. To collaboratively support people in achieving their goals, outcomes and maximisation of their independence. (E)
Experience of holding and effectively managing complex, high risk or high profile cases. (E)
Aptitudes, Skills & Competencies:
To apply social work ethics, principles and values to guide
professional practice. (E)
Ability to take responsibility for the professional learning and
development of others through supervision, mentoring, assessing, research, teaching, leadership and management. (E)
