Head of Engineering

Rightmove
London
Role: Head of Engineering

Location: London (Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office), with frequent travel to Milton Keynes.

We’re looking for a thoughtful and experienced person to help lead and grow our engineering organisation at Rightmove. This role is central to our continued success as we evolve our technology platform and deliver high-quality digital experiences for our users.

  • Are you a person who brings a strong track record of engineering leadership within complex, fast-paced environments?
  • Are you someone who values collaboration, clear communication, and the development of others?
  • Do you want to help shape a culture where engineers are supported, challenged, and able to do their best work?

What You’ll Do

  • Lead with clarity and purpose: Set direction for engineering teams, ensuring alignment with business goals while maintaining a focus on quality, sustainability, and delivery.
  • Foster a healthy engineering culture: Promote shared standards, continuous learning, and a collaborative environment where teams feel ownership and pride in their work.
  • Support people and performance: Provide coaching, feedback, and career development for engineering managers. Helping build a strong team through thoughtful hiring and inclusive leadership.
  • Drive technical excellence: Work with peers to define and evolve engineering practices, ensuring teams are equipped to make sound technical decisions.
  • Balance delivery and platform health: Partner with product leaders to deliver at pace, while addressing technical debt and ensuring long-term maintainability.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships: Help bridge gaps between engineering and other parts of the business, ensuring shared understanding and effective collaboration.

What You’ll Bring

  • Ability to lead engineering teams in a fast paced product-focused tech environment.
  • A pragmatic approach to technology strategy, balancing short-term needs with long-term goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across teams.
  • A commitment to developing people and creating an inclusive, supportive team culture.
  • A clear understanding of how engineering contributes to business outcomes, and the ability to keep teams focused on what matters most.

This is a key leadership role for someone who enjoys building strong teams, solving complex problems, and helping others succeed. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
