Head of Learning & Development
Head of Learning & Development (Global)
London, UK
About Datatonic
Datatonic is a leading global data and AI consultancy, driving business transformation for the world’s most ambitious brands. As a premier Google Cloud Partner, we combine cutting-edge technology with top-tier talent to deliver high-impact solutions across Cloud Data Engineering, Analytics, and Advanced Machine Learning/Generative AI.
We don't just implement technology; we foster a continuous learning culture. We are looking for a visionary, commercial, and deeply strategic Head of L&D to own our global learning ecosystem, scaling our internal technical excellence and commercialising our training expertise externally.
Role Overview
As the Head of Learning & Development (L&D) , you will hold a dual-impact global role. Internally, you will shape the skills of our world-class team, ensuring Datatonic remains at the absolute forefront of Google Cloud and AI innovation. Externally, you will drive revenue and market presence by leveraging our internal training products to upsell and deliver high-value educational services to our clients.
You will lead the strategy for upskilling both deeply technical engineering teams and non-technical business functions, ensuring Datatonic is future-ready for the next 1–2 years of AI disruption.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Capability Building & Certification Strategy
Google Cloud Mastery: Design and execute the global strategy to maintain Datatonic’s position as a top-tier partner, driving 100% alignment with achieving and maintaining Professional Google Cloud Certifications and Skill Badges across the technical workforce.
Future-proof Learning: Build comprehensive curricula in AI and Generative AI . This includes technical deep-dives for data scientists/engineers and practical, impact-driven AI literacy programs for delivery, commercial, and non-technical teams over the next 1–2 years. It also includes ownership of our ‘Accelerator’ programs to reskill talent (e.g. our 8-week Software Engineer to AI Engineer program) and creation of new programs to meet our business needs.
Role-Based Pathways: Develop clear, continuous learning paths for every role at Datatonic, blending technical mastery with essential consulting, leadership, and delivery skills.
2. External Commercialisation & Datatonic Academy
Go-to-Market Strategy: Turn Datatonic’s internal L&D excellence into a client-facing revenue driver. Package and commercialise internal training programs and L&D products for our customers.
Google Cloud ATP Management: Support our Academy team as a bridge between internal and external propositions. Understand our status as a Google Cloud Authorised Training Partner (ATP), helping to maximise the partnership, and supporting our instructors’ development to enable continued delivery world-class external training.
Customer Education: Collaborate with the sales and delivery teams to position Academy offerings as high-value add-ons or standalone engagements for clients undergoing digital transformation.
3. Culture, Engagement & Innovation
Hackathons & Events: Own the strategy, design, and execution of internal and external hackathons, tech-jams, and knowledge-sharing events to foster a vibrant engineering culture.
Incentive Programs: Design and manage creative incentive structures (gamification, rewards, recognition) that inspire high engagement with L&D initiatives and certification drives.
Content Factory: Oversee the content lifecycle—from creation to maintenance—ensuring all learning materials, labs, and documentation are cutting-edge and scalable.
4. Early Talent & Special Programs
Apprenticeships & Academies: Own and scale Datatonic’s early-career programs, including technical apprenticeships, graduate schemes, and returner programs, ensuring a diverse and robust talent pipeline. This is not an immediate focus but on our roadmap for within 1-2 years.
Special Projects: Lead strategic, bespoke training initiatives tailored to emerging market trends or specific regional growth needs.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: 5+ years of progressive leadership in L&D, ideally within a fast-paced technology consultancy, MSP, or global digital transformation agency.
Commercial Acumen: Proven track record of running L&D as a business unit, with experience commercialising training products or managing a client-facing L&D function.
Cloud/AI Literacy: Strong familiarity with the cloud ecosystem (Google Cloud preferred) and a sharp understanding of the current AI and Generative AI landscape. You don't need to write code, but you must speak the language of Data Engineers and Data Scientists.
Strategic Execution: Ability to design high-level global frameworks while remaining close enough to the execution to ensure content quality and event success.
Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence C-suite executives, motivate engineering teams, and consult with enterprise B2B clients.
Why Join Datatonic?
