CNC Machinist
Skilled CNC Operator – Integrated Manufacturing Facility
Join the organization’s fully integrated Computer‑Aided Manufacturing (CAM) environment, where state‑of‑the‑art CNC turning, milling and grinding centres produce custom‑designed components from a wide range of materials including steel, copper, brass, aluminium and bronze. You will work with multi‑axis lathes, mills, grinders and supporting equipment to deliver high‑mix, precision fluid‑film bearings, seals and isolators for turbo and industrial machinery customers across Europe and beyond.
What You’ll Do
- Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches to determine machining operations, dimensional specifications and set‑up requirements.
- Locate and download CNC programs from a DNC storage system.
- Interpret work instructions, select and install the appropriate tooling for each operation.
- Calculate optimal feeds and speeds for various materials (steel, copper, brass, aluminium, bronze).
- Read, edit or write complete CNC programs as needed.
- Apply an intuitive understanding of tooling and machine capabilities.
- Follow quality‑system procedures and conduct required inspections.
- Use Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce set‑up times and boost productivity.
- Visually inspect finished components and perform final boxing, cleaning, oiling, wrapping and packaging for shipment.
- Carry out cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing and aligning to ensure free movement of parts.
- Operate precision measuring instruments and gauging devices for dimensional verification.
- Accurately identify components after assembly or manufacture.
Requirements & Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC turning, milling or grinding centres in a high‑mix production environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, process sheets and work instructions.
- Familiarity with DNC program retrieval and basic CNC programming (editing or writing).
- Strong knowledge of feeds, speeds and tooling for a variety of metals and alloys.
- Experience with precision measuring equipment and quality inspection techniques.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Commitment to adhering to quality and safety standards.
- Flexibility to work rotating or night shift patterns as required.
Working Conditions
- Permanent employment contract.
- 37‑hour work week, Monday to Friday.
- Shift options:
- Rotating early (6 am) and back‑shift (2 pm) pattern – £44,919.62 per year (inclusive of shift premium).
- Night‑shift pattern – £52,452.37 per year (inclusive of shift premium).
