Fire Alarm Engineer
We are currently looking for a skilled and motivated Small Works Service Fire Alarm Engineer to join a leading UK-based fire protection contractor with a reputation for technical excellence, reliability, and a high-quality service-led approach. Operating across commercial, industrial, and mission-critical sectors—including data centres—this is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who values professionalism, attention to detail, and team collaboration. This role involves both hands-on technical work and project-level coordination, covering servicing, commissioning, and small works installation of fire alarm systems. Key Responsibilities: * Ensure all assigned sites are serviced according to the service calendar, reporting issues promptly to the Service Manager. * Oversee the full lifecycle of small works—from initiation and design input through to commissioning and handover—including documentation such as method statements, calculations, drawings, and O&M manuals. * Conduct system testing and servicing in line with relevant British Standards, ensuring records and witnessing documentation are accurate and up to date. * Assist in preparing detailed build budgets before commencing works, including forecasting for materials, plant, labour, and subcontractor costs. * Supervise subcontract labour and supply-and-fix subcontractors when applicable. * Ensure all small works are completed safely, professionally, and in line with current H&S and regulatory standards. * Report progress and site information to the Service Manager or Directors in a clear and timely manner, including site photos, signed worksheets, and related documents. * Maintain detailed records to manage and track ongoing costs vs. budget. * Assist with preparing applications and invoice requests for service and small works. * Support estimation or sales activities when required. * Work closely with sales, design, and technical teams to ensure continuity across project stages. * Build strong client and professional relationships, promoting a friendly and professional company image. * Represent the company positively and uphold its reputation as a first-class contractor in the fire protection industry. * Support site management and contribute actively as part of the wider engineering team. * Monitor competitor activities and stay aware of industry developments. Requirements: * Proven experience working with fire alarm systems, including servicing, installation, and commissioning. * Experience managing or supporting small works projects in a fire protection or building services environment. * Strong understanding of relevant fire alarm standards (e.g., BS 5839) and H&S regulations. * High level of computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word. * Excellent communication and organisational skills. * Proactive and professional with a strong customer-facing presence. * Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. * Full UK driving licence required. Desirable: * Formal fire systems qualifications (e.g., FIA units or equivalent). * Experience working in critical environments, such as data centres or healthcare facilities. * Familiarity with NICEIC or BAFE standards. What’s on Offer: * Competitive salary based on experience * Company vehicle, tools, and ongoing training opportunities * Career progression within a growing and respected organisation * A supportive and collaborative working environment
