Project Manager (Fares, Ticketing & Retail) - PMO

Network Rail
London
Who We Are

Fares, Ticketing & Retail team

Transforming how passengers buy and use rail

Britain's railways must deliver for passengers now and in the future. That's why the government and the rail industry are delivering a programme of reforms to make rail easier to buy and use:
  • Easier to understand, better value fares - Straightforward ticket choices and fair, consistent prices, including more lower fares.
  • Confidence you have the right ticket - Simple to understand the ticket you need and better protection for honest passengers through industry-wide action to tackle fare dodging and fraud
  • Easier ways to buy tickets - A high quality GBR website and app selling and serving passengers' rail journeys, alongside independent retailers.
  • Rail integrated with other public transport in major urban areas - Tap-in tap-out expanded to Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and more of the South East, with new mobile payment trials testing future innovation.
  • Better, more accessible retail experience - More support for passengers including those who rely on paper tickets or cash, or who need extra assistance.
We're not waiting. As we become Great British Railways, a programme of reform is already making rail easier to buy and use, helping rebuild trust in rail and encouraging more people to travel by train.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced PMO Manager to join the FTR PMO to support the delivery of a portfolio of programmes and projects contributing to the stand up of GBR. Working as part of an integrated programme delivery team, you will play a key role in supporting project controls, governance and reporting activities, ensuring accurate information, effective stakeholder engagement and robust programme oversight

This role is responsible for developing the PMO framework, governance structure and ways of working to support effective portfolio and project delivery. It creates practical project standards, templates, controls and reporting processes, while providing portfolio-level visibility across projects, programmes and change initiatives. The role implements effective RAID, dependency, milestone and action management, develops meaningful reporting for senior leadership and governance forums, and establishes appropriate project gates and decision-making processes. It supports portfolio planning, prioritisation and resource management, promotes consistency in project planning and delivery controls, and works closely with Project Managers and workstream leads to strengthen delivery discipline.

The role provides constructive challenge where risks, dependencies or milestones are not being effectively managed, supports business case development, benefits realisation and post-implementation reviews, and identifies gaps in the delivery environment, implementing pragmatic solutions to address them. A key responsibility is embedding a consistent project delivery culture across the organisation while continually improving PMO capabilities as the portfolio evolves.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a complex rail reform programme while driving high standards of reporting, coordination and continuous improvement.
