Clinical Research Fellow in Neurosurgery
- Weekly seminars by consultant speakers from within Queen Square;
- Monthly Brain School by invited consultant speakers from across London;
- Annual Victor Horsley lecture by prominent neurosurgeons from across the world;
- Priority access to the Queen Square Neurosurgical Review course, featuring an international faculty of more than 35 speakers;
- Specialty Research Group meetings, including vascular, hydrocephalus, functional, and pituitary meetings, that have resulted in numerous presentations and publications;
- Programme designed to help those applying for an ST1 national training number including a mock national selection event; and
- Access to the Medtronic drilling course. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to gain extensive experience of applied translational research in one of several areas, depending on their preference, including: pituitary and skull base surgery; neuro-oncology; vascular surgery; and spinal surgery. Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications: Essential criteria
- Registered Medical Practitioner
- Completed general medical training
- Full GMC Registration. NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment.
- Clinical Experience in Neurosurgery at SHO level
- An indication of effective research carried out under direction
- Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Experience in data collection, management, analysis and presentation
- Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of the aims thereof
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good computing skills (database, statistics)
- Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical and non-clinical setting
- Ability to provide clinical supervision
- Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise junior staff
- Committed to research and a commitment to quality in the research process
- High ethical and professional standards in research, education and clinical practice
- Ability to administer a teaching programme
- Excellent presentation and teaching skills
- Understanding of research methodology
- Excellent communication skills/verbal and written
- Resourceful and able to act on own initiative
- A very high level of consideration and care for patients and research subjects
- Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
- Completing all required training and education (both via e-learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
- Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal.
- Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
