Senior Manager - Remediation - FS Risk Consulting
EY's Financial Services practice is a unique industry-focused business unit that provides a broad range of integrated services to financial institutions and other capital markets participants, including banks, insurers and wealth and asset managers.
EY UK’s Remediation Team works across all sectors on a broad range of engagements with a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering consultancy services and support in regulatory risk and remediation matters.
The team focuses on delivering some of the industry’s largest and most complex remediation programmes. This includes supporting firms in qualifying potential issues, root cause analysis, as well as designing and implementing past business reviews and redress schemes to calculate consumer harm.
The opportunity
Our objective is to continue being the market leader for remediation within the Financial Services sector. We collaborate and work closely with teams across EY, developing technology and regulatory risk-based solutions for our clients.
Your key responsibilities
As a Senior Manager within the Remediation Team, typical engagements you can expect to be involved in include designing, implementing or reviewing:
- Past business reviews and remediation programmes for firms
- FCA agreed actions including Section 166 reviews
- Issue identification and health checks. This could include assessing the quality of advice given by a firm in relation to financial products, assessing a firm’s systems, or validating the measures taken by a firm to correct issues
- The execution of remediation activities including end-to-end project delivery, MI & Reporting, operational planning and budgets
- Product/ file reviews and/ or quality assurance support
- Policy Frameworks
- Risk Management Frameworks including governance arrangements, risk appetite and control frameworks,
- Identifying and leading business development opportunities for new and existing clients
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Play a significant role in the delivery of our engagements to clients through the articulation of EY findings, conclusions and recommendations in writing or verbally based on a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and remediation expertise.
- Provide input into the application of regulatory standards and support the development of solutions to resolve complex regulatory risks and issues
- Have strong technical knowledge of financial products and experience in customer-facing regulated activities (e.g. complaint handling)
- Lead and deliver key projects on a day-to-day basis
- Take responsibility for engagement planning, management, and delivering large and diverse teams in engagements
- Own the analysis of emerging issues, the articulation of an EY point of view and the development of an EY proposition on agreed topics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client presentations
- Identify additional opportunities for EY to perform advisory services to their clients
- Where needed, lead the proposals process for new client opportunities
- Develop client relationships and utilise your network to identify opportunities for EY to perform additional services
- Work effectively as a team member sharing responsibility, providing support and updating senior members on progress
- Mentor staff and conduct performance reviews and contribute to performance feedback for staff

Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Knowledge and experience of regulation and/ or remediation and a clear understanding of the strategic implications of regulation
- Very strong financial product knowledge / experience
- Strong project management experience ideally relating to remediation execution/delivery
- Outstanding communication skills, displays business acumen and has the ability to work with a commercial mindset and challenging approach
- Is highly organised, methodical and structured whilst flexible to adjust to multiple demands and has robust project management skills and experience under tight timelines.
- Is proactive, anticipating and focused. Is willing to take initiatives and propose solutions and has the ability to get things done
- Ability to work in a client facing and consulting role, with the ability to build networks and strong relationships with clients
- Has strong client handling skills, providing appropriate challenge where necessary whilst also being flexible and open to changing client’s needs and expectations
- Ability to develop new business opportunities for the Remediation team to deliver
- Has strong ability to work and team with a wide range of colleagues across the business, supporting them and promoting a collaborative culture
To qualify for the role, you must have some or all of the following:
- A strong background in Financial Services or a proven track record in delivering remediation programmes
- A strong understanding of financial markets and regulatory standards and an ability to translate these into client solutions
- Sound technical knowledge of financial products and / or customer-facing regulated activities (e.g. complaint handling)
- Strong academic background, ideally to a degree level or equivalent
- FPC or QCF Level 4 qualified (preferable but not required)
- Experience of managing and developing people
