JOB PURPOSE

Sitting within the Technology Transformation Team, Technology Project Managers form part of Burberry IT's central Project Management capability and are deployed across projects, programmes and domain-aligned initiatives according to portfolio priorities and delivery demand.

They are accountable for the effective day-to-day management and delivery of their assigned initiatives, establishing the structure, planning, governance, controls and delivery cadence required to achieve agreed outcomes. Working in partnership with the accountable IT Director or nominated senior stakeholder, they maintain clear alignment on outcomes, scope, delivery priorities, risks, decisions and trade-offs.

Technology Project Managers report to the Senior Manager, Portfolio Management & Governance for professional leadership, performance management and capability development, while operating within the governance and decision-making structure of their assigned initiatives. They may manage multiple concurrent projects or workstreams and are expected to transition effectively between different technology domains and delivery methodologies as portfolio priorities change. The role also contributes to the development and continuous improvement of Burberry's Technology Project Management discipline, including the PMLC, methodologies, tools and ways of working, and supports the effective integration of permanent and contingent Project Managers into the central capability.

  • Partner with IT Directors and senior stakeholders to define project scope, outcomes, governance, and priorities.
  • Own and maintain integrated delivery plans, managing dependencies, critical paths, sequencing, and resource allocation.
  • Manage scope, change control, and RAID logs (risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies), ensuring threats are actively mitigated or escalated.
  • Coordinate cross-functional delivery across product, platform, enabling, and third-party teams.
  • Ensure all delivery adheres to architecture, security, regulatory, and operational compliance standards.

Stakeholder & Governance Management

  • Provide project governance forums with accurate, evidence-based reporting on progress, risks, dependencies, and budgets.
  • Maintain professional independence to constructively challenge unrealistic timelines, resource gaps, or unmitigated risks.
  • Partner with Business Programme Management to align technology delivery with business readiness, UAT, change management, and adoption.
  • Adapt communication styles to build strong collaborative relationships across IT, business teams, and external partners.

Financial & Third-Party Management

  • Maintain strict financial control over project budgets, forecasts, actuals, and variances in line with corporate standards.
  • Monitor third-party vendor performance, ensuring suppliers deliver against agreed contractual milestones and quality standards.
  • Escalate commercial or supplier performance issues through proper Procurement and Technology Business Management routes.

Central Project Capability

  • Operate flexibly across diverse technology domains within the central Technology Project Management team, balancing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Tailor and apply the PMLC across predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery models to suit project scale and complexity.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of PMLC standards, templates, and tools using lessons learned and best practices.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and peer mentoring of permanent and contingent Project Managers.
  • Maintain clear visibility of resource capacity and future availability to support efficient portfolio deployment.

PERSONAL PROFILE

• Proven experience managing end-to-end delivery of technology projects or significant workstreams within complex IT environments.

• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or workstreams with competing priorities and cross- functional dependencies.

• Strong project management capability, including planning, governance, scope management, RAID management, dependency management, financial control and stakeholder reporting.

• Experience operating across different project delivery methodologies, with practical knowledge of predictive, agile and hybrid approaches.

• Experience working in matrixed technology environments across product, platform, architecture, infrastructure and/or enterprise technology teams.

• Experience working directly with senior technology stakeholders and project sponsors, providing clear delivery insight, recommendations and constructive challenge.

• Experience managing third-party delivery partners, with the ability to track performance, challenge delivery commitments and escalate issues appropriately.

• Experience operating across mixed delivery teams comprising permanent employees, contractors and third- party partners.

• Experience managing project financials, including estimates, budgets, forecasts, actuals and variance tracking across CapEx and OpEx where applicable.

• Strong understanding of technology delivery lifecycles, software development practices and enterprise IT environments.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear and structured updates to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Proactive, organised and comfortable operating with autonomy, able to make delivery decisions within delegated authority and escalate appropriately.

• Ability to rapidly understand new technology domains, stakeholder environments and delivery contexts when moving between assignments.

• Experience contributing to project management standards, methodologies, communities of practice or continuous improvement activities is beneficial.

• Relevant project/programme management qualifications or professional accreditation are beneficial.
