Front End Developer
Rayo, part of the UBDS group, is seeking a Front-End Developer to deliver high-performance, accessible, and maintainable user interfaces for AWS-hosted applications. The successful candidate will work closely with designers, back-end engineers, and DevOps teams to build responsive and scalable front-end solutions. This role is suited to developers with solid experience in modern JavaScript frameworks and a keen understanding of front-end performance and security principles, as well as those ready to provide architectural input and mentor junior colleagues.
This opportunity offers a range of responsibilities suitable for both experienced developers and those seeking to grow into senior technical leadership roles within the front-end space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain robust, user-centred front-end applications using React or Angular.
- Integrate front-end components with RESTful APIs and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Implement accessibility standards, performance optimisation techniques, and responsive design principles.
- Drive the adoption of secure coding practices and front-end architecture standards.
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of component libraries and design systems.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure implementation aligns with design intent.
- Lead front-end projects and provide technical direction and mentoring to less experienced developers.
- Support continuous integration and delivery using AWS-native tools such as Amplify and CodePipeline.
- Participate in code reviews and cross-functional Agile ceremonies.
Requirements
- Strong experience with JavaScript frameworks, particularly React or Angular.
- Demonstrated ability to consume and integrate APIs within complex applications.
- Practical knowledge of unit and integration testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha).
- Experience working with UX/UI designers and design systems.
- Familiarity with front-end CI/CD tools and AWS-native deployment mechanisms.
- Understanding of accessibility standards, front-end security, and performance optimisation.
- Experience participating in Agile delivery teams and collaborative software environments.
Desirable Experience:
- 2–6 years of front-end development experience in commercial environments.
- 2+ years working with AWS-based front-end delivery (e.g., Amplify, CloudFront, Cognito integration).
- Prior involvement in mentoring or leading development teams.
- Experience delivering secure and accessible public sector or regulated applications.
