Barking, Greater London

Teacher of Psychology & Behavioral Science (January 2027 Start)

Location: Barking & Dagenham, East/Outer London

School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Fixed-Term

Start Date: January 2027 (Winter Term Start)

A forward-thinking, high-achieving secondary school and Sixth Form in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is seeking an articulate, research-informed, and dynamic Teacher of Psychology to join their expanding Social Sciences faculty this January . Situated within a borough experiencing major investment, cultural growth, and educational transformation, this mid-year appointment offers an outstanding opportunity for a Social Sciences specialist, whether an experienced practitioner eager to lead A-Level Social Science modules or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT), to foster scientific inquiry, empirical analysis, and psychological literacy across a high-aspiring Sixth Form and Key Stage 4 cohort.

About the Role

Stepping into the department for the January term, you will bring cognitive processes, social influence, psychopathology, neurobiology, and research methodologies to life. Joining a collaborative, high-performing Sixth Form team, you will deliver compelling, academically rigorous lessons across Key Stage 5 (A-Level Psychology) and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Psychology / Social Sciences), equipping young adult learners with the critical evaluation tools, statistical reasoning, and essay-writing sophistication required for top university courses and health/social science pathways.

  • Environment: A modern Outer London secondary campus featuring dedicated Sixth Form suites, digital learning labs, interactive research terminals, and strong links to university research departments

  • Culture: A university-preparatory, high-expectation academic environment focused on empirical debate, contemporary case studies, data analysis, and driving exceptional post-16 progression outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver academically rich, engaging Psychology lessons across Key Stages 4 and 5 covering cognitive psychology, developmental theory, biological psychology, psychopathology, and research methods.

  • Prepare A-Level and GCSE candidates thoroughly for national written examinations through explicit modeling of 16-mark evaluative essays, empirical research design, and quantitative data analysis.

  • Integrate classic research studies alongside contemporary psychological developments (e.g., neuroscience advancements, cognitive therapies, behavioral economics) to foster critical debate.

  • Track, evaluate, and monitor student progress systematically, implementing targeted intervention strategies to stretch high-aspiring scholars pursuing degree courses in Psychology, Neuroscience, or Medicine.

  • Contribute actively to departmental enrichment, including the Student Mind & Brain Society, empirical research projects, university masterclasses, and external subject conferences.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.

  • A strong academic degree in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Behavioral Science, or a closely related empirical social science discipline.

  • Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Psychology instruction across Key Stage 5 (A-Level Psychology teaching capability is essential).

  • In-depth knowledge of national examination board specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and empirical research methodologies.

  • Outstanding classroom presence, strong analytical communication skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for psychological theory and human behavior.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Key Stage 5 Social Sciences Coordination, Psychology Lead, or EPQ Coordinator.

  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured middle leadership mentoring, and access to staff health and wellbeing programs.

How to Apply

If you are an ambitious Psychology specialist ready to make an immediate impact this January at a dynamic secondary school in Barking & Dagenham, we encourage you to apply promptly. Please submit your application form and CV as soon as possible for consideration.
