Assistant National Officer - Health & Safety
About this Role
The ideal candidate will be highly organised, proactive, and possess a strong understanding of health and safety policy within an industrial relations context.
Excellent communication skills, digital competency, and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels are essential.
Supporting the Health and Safety National Officer, the post holder will contribute to shaping and delivering effective health and safety initiatives. This dynamic position involves developing campaigns, producing high-quality materials, conducting research, organising training sessions, delivering presentations, coordinating meetings and events, and supporting UNISON’s democratic structures.
You will play a key role in linking these activities to the recruitment and organisation of members and representatives, ensuring UNISON health and safety policy remains a pivotal part of policy
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering health and safety policy advice and guidance to lay committees, service group meetings, conferences and other internal structures, as appropriate.
- Plan and deliver influential national campaigns, incorporating strategic digital engagement initiatives to maximise reach and impact.
- Under supervision, lead the coordination of UNISON’s biannual National Health and Safety Seminar, contributing to the delivery of plenary sessions and workshops that foster engagement and knowledge-sharing.
- Utilise digital recruitment tools and website management skills to create and maintain online resources.
- Oversee social media engagement, ensuring effective engagement with members and stakeholders on health and safety topics.
- Assist in maintaining and develop relationships with external organisations and key stakeholders, supporting collaboration on health and safety matters.
- Review and update health and safety resources to ensure relevance and accuracy and draft the quarterly health and safety newsletter.
- Support the smooth running of committees and forums, drafting papers and contributing to their overall effectiveness.
