Associate UI Designer - Support - Customer

Tesco
London

We're looking for an eager and upbeat Associate UI Designer who's ready to get stuck in with our multidisciplinary team!

As an Associate UI Designer at the UK's largest supermarket, you'll help bring to life digital shopping experiences used by millions. You'll work on new opportunities, crafting intuitive solutions that improve every stage of a customer's shopping journey. And you'll iterate, test and learn from every experience.

Audiences don't get bigger or more diverse than this! We have 11 million active app users and over 1 million online grocery orders a week. So, you'll need a big appetite for learning everything about innovative interaction design, prototyping and testing, and data and analytics.

Collaboration mixed with expertise and insight is the recipe for successful design. So, you'll be working with some of the finest UX and UI designers, researchers, UX writers, service designers, data and analytics experts, product managers and developers.

Our secret ingredient is our Digital Design System. So, it would be phenomenal if you already have experience using one.

Here's a taste of what you can expect.

You'll join a business that values your expertise, experience and insight. That nurtures your personal and career growth, with opportunities for every stage of your journey. You'll be a crucial member of a hard-working team comprised of individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds who possess your determination and motivation. You'll enjoy a hybrid role that creates the perfect work/life balance, helping you be who you are both professionally and personally. And a benefits package that's more than competitive.

  • Design the UI for large and small multi-platform projects, making complicated experiences simpler and easier to use.
  • Contribute to interaction design discovery, sketching, wire-framing, prototyping and delivering ready for build design files.
  • Engage with a range of departments, partnering closely with UX designers, researchers, UX writers, engineers, product managers, data analysts, and business partners to explore, build and deliver designs.
  • Champion human-centred design inside and outside of your team.
  • Work within and across agile squads to design, develop and improve the customer experience across our digital products.
  • Partner with UX researchers to help your team develop compassion for our customers, including those with a disability, and advocate for their needs, validating designs via A/B testing, un-moderated, usability testing.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to understand feasibility of design ideas and ensure review of design implementation at key stages of the development cycle.
  • Partner with the analytics team to help advise your work.
  • Contribute to workshops, conceptualisation and participatory design sessions.
  • Promote inclusive design practices and deliver accessible designs.
  • Use our Digital Design System to deliver consistent and effective designs built on standardised foundations, components and patterns.
  • Assist other subject areas in recognising the value design can contribute to a project to build outstanding products.
  • Continuously seek to improve design processes to improve efficiency, remove obstacles, and simplify workflows.
  • Work with the Design Manager to cultivate a positive, supportive, and inclusive team culture.

  • Strong UI design skills, including interaction design.
  • An exciting portfolio demonstrating your skills across web, responsive and native app.
  • Experience in design projects in a customer-facing commercial environment.
  • A good level of proficiency with the latest versions of Figma.
  • Knowledge of the latest design and prototyping tools and technologies.
  • Proficiency in designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 level AA.
  • A good understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process.
  • Passion for solving problems while balancing all facets of a user experience.
  • Experience collaborating closely with multiple fields, including product and engineering.
  • Self-motivation, and good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present your ideas clearly.
  • Proficiency with current industry design and collaboration tools such as Miro or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous experience in the retail sector is an advantage.
