Energy & Infrastructure Portfolio Manager
Position Title: Energy & Infrastructure Portfolio Manager
Team: Energy and Infrastructure Finance (EIF) – UK
Team Description: The EIF - UK team provides innovative financing and debt advisory solutions to energy and infrastructure clients, including infrastructure funds, developers, and corporates in the UK and Europe. Operating across multiple sectors, the team is central to delivering Investec's sustainability goals. The EIF business is a strategic growth area for the bank, with ambitious targets for the coming years. The team has an established track record and manages a diverse lending portfolio of £1 billion spread across 45 assets. Our focus is on mid-market transactions, typically with a sub-investment grade credit profile, primarily in the form of senior secured debt, with the flexibility to accommodate subordinated or junior debt. We adopt a proactive and flexible approach to customise debt solutions that meet client needs, including a range of funding structures such as project finance, acquisition finance, bridge funding, RCFs, and NAV loans, alongside associated derivatives capabilities in partnership with the Risk Solutions team.
Description of Role and Key Responsibilities:
Role Overview: This role is integral to the team's success and offers exciting opportunities for growth and development within a dynamic and fast-growing business. The Portfolio Manager will manage ongoing borrower relationships, including credit and risk monitoring across a portfolio of 45+ borrowers.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management:
- Oversee a portfolio of borrowers, monitoring performance and covenant compliance, preparing annual/periodic reviews, and processing amendment and waiver requests.
- Proactively identify warning signals and present portfolio reviews to credit teams and senior management.
Risk Management:
- Promote a rigorous risk management environment, escalating risks as necessary.
- Collaborate with origination, credit, and restructuring teams to understand trends and develop appropriate responses.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and manage Associates and Analysts, ensuring all client and internal requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Support the development of team members through regular constructive feedback.
Business Development:
- Work closely with the origination team to identify new business and revenue opportunities from existing clients.
Client Engagement:
- Maintain excellent relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
Wider Team Support:
- Assist with annual risk appetite and sustainable finance targets, as well as other strategic EIF initiatives.
Core Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:
Experience:
- Proven track record in portfolio and credit management within a European energy and infrastructure/project finance team at a bank or debt fund.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of infrastructure and project finance credit skills, including key transaction risks and financial statement analysis.
Negotiation Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in negotiating infrastructure and project finance documentation.
Market Knowledge:
- Relevant market, sector, and technical knowledge of the European Energy & Infrastructure sectors.
Communication Skills:
- Strong presentation and communication abilities.
Integrity and Teamwork:
- Commitment to acting with integrity and treating clients fairly, alongside strong interpersonal skills.
Leadership and Delegation:
- Ability to manage and lead teams effectively to achieve success.
Additional Attributes (Preferred but Not Essential):
- Knowledge of UK energy and infrastructure markets.
