art-K Beckenham is an art club for children aged 6 to 18 based in Beckenham. Using a wide range of mediums and learning techniques, the club aims to teach children a diverse range of artistic styles as well as 3D projects.

With over 50 branches across the country and 7000+ students - art-K has a tried-and-tested programme that’s proven to work in teaching children core artistic skills and techniques. art-K cares very deeply about sharing their love of art with our students, and our goal is ensuring each child has access to an art-K club in their local area.

We’re looking to find a passionate, motivated and friendly Assistant Art Teacher to join our team at art-K Beckenham! You will be supporting our Art Teachers with the running of the session and the upkeep of the studio, ensuring our students get the best experience when attending our classes.

Job responsibilities

The role is supporting the Branch Manager and the studio with administrative and studio daily tasks and leading/assisting art classes. This will include, but isn’t limited to:

  • Supporting growth-based tasks as determined by the branch manager.
  1. Providing social media support when required.
  2. Connecting with the community and supporting the delivery of events
  3. Coordinating outreach events, such as school fairs, careers talks, murals.
  4. Ad hoc other
  • Creating spreadsheets/documents on google drive to support the studio tasks and tracking the growth and finance operations of the studio. Maintaining organisation in-branch.
  • Supporting customer communication through written email and phone responses proactively and promptly. Supporting retention and trial acquisition actions, through coming up with suggestions based on historic performance and printing out required materials.
  • Purchasing/maintaining stock in alignment with the finance budget. Ensuring sustainable methods are maintained to maximise stock and minimise expenditure.
  • Manage ad-hoc studio maintenance and ad-hoc other administrative tasks.
  • Work in a fun, club environment with high teacher-student ratios where children are enthusiastic about art.
  • Join a strong team of like-minded artists and teachers who are all committed and passionate about education.
  • Have face-to-face training on all art projects by Kathryn, the Creative Director.
  • Gain experience and knowledge in delivering skill-based art programmes, teaching and child development. Learn how to individualise a programme to a students’ needs and abilities, to help their long-term development.
  • Support class preparations, for example:
  1. Laying out materials
  2. Talking through aims with your manager
  3. Sharpening pencils
  4. Washing paintbrushes
  5. Cutting out templates and other requests made by your manager
  6. Ad hoc other
  • Maintain the studio’s upkeep, which includes:
  1. Window displays
  2. Prepping paint
  3. Cleaning the space
  4. Making posters

The ideal candidate will:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications generally, with a focus on Microsoft Word, is essential.
  • High level of English writing ability to be able to draft content and respond to questions by email.
  • Create a safe, happy, nurturing environment for students to thrive in.Actively engage with parents to discuss the progress of the students with parents.
  • Support the students’ ongoing learning environment by:
  • Running workshops in school holidays.
  • Ad-hoc cover when the branch manager is ill or on holiday - preparing and leading classes.
  • Ad-hoc cover of nearby studios when required - preparing and leading classes.

And ideally have:

  • Art degree or equivalent skills
  • Art skills in a range of mediums
  • Experience teaching/ working with children
  • Long term commitment to previous roles
  • Positive and proactive attitude
  • Someone who lives within 30 minutes of the branch
  • Flexibility to assist in other branches within a reasonable commuting distance in cases of staff absence

Schedule:

Mondays 13:00 - 19:00 (5.5 hours and 30' unpaid break)
Thursdays 17:00 - 21:30
Fridays 10:30 - 18:00 (7 hours and 30' unpaid break)
Saturdays 8:30 - 16:00 (7 hours and 30' unpaid break)

Total: 24 hours per week

Salary: £17878.64

Start Date: 1st September
