Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP or Next Term

About the School

A forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in North London is seeking a resilient and committed Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral and inclusion team. The school supports a diverse student population and has a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, mental health, and behaviour support.

The school recognises that challenging behaviour is often a communication of unmet needs and is committed to addressing behaviour through restorative, trauma-informed, and supportive approaches. Behaviour Mentors play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and re-engage positively with education.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 who present with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, anxiety, or disengagement from learning. You will work closely with students on a one-to-one basis, as well as delivering small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour choices.

This role requires emotional resilience, consistency, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced trauma, instability, or difficulties in previous educational settings.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Behaviour Mentor role include:

  • Providing one-to-one mentoring for students with behavioural and SEMH needs

  • Supporting students with ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation

  • Delivering targeted interventions focused on behaviour, engagement, and wellbeing

  • Supporting students within lessons to promote focus and positive behaviour

  • De-escalating challenging situations using calm, restorative strategies

  • Supporting students during transitions, breaktimes, and lunchtimes

  • Monitoring attendance, behaviour, and progress

  • Working closely with pastoral leads, SEN staff, and safeguarding teams

  • Supporting reintegration following exclusions or time out of lessons

  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to review meetings

  • Building positive relationships with students and families

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking a Behaviour Mentor who:

  • Has experience working with adolescents or vulnerable young people

  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Is calm, consistent, and emotionally resilient

  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Is committed to safeguarding and inclusive education

Experience in SEMH schools, alternative provision, youth work, mentoring, or care settings would be highly advantageous.

Training & Professional Development

The school provides:

  • Behaviour management and de-escalation training

  • Mental health and trauma-informed practice training

  • Safeguarding and child protection training

  • Ongoing pastoral supervision and support

This role offers excellent experience for those pursuing careers in teaching, psychology, social work, or youth justice.

Safeguarding Statement

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references are required.

Why Apply?

  • Make a real difference to young people’s lives

  • Join a strong and supportive pastoral team

  • Gain valuable SEMH and behaviour experience

  • Long-term role with training provided

  • Positive and inclusive school culture
