An Outstanding School in Merton is looking to recruit an enthusiastic History Teacher to join its Humanities Department. The school is seeking a teacher who can encourage students to think critically about the past, question historical evidence and develop confidence in written analysis.
History Teacher Vacancy
Teaching History across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE
Location: Merton
Salary: MPS1–UPS3
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Start Date: ASAP
You will teach a varied History curriculum covering significant events, people and developments across different historical periods. Students will develop their chronological understanding while exploring the causes and consequences of historical change.
At KS3, you will introduce pupils to a range of historical topics and help them build the skills needed to analyse evidence. At GCSE, you will prepare students for source questions, interpretations and extended written responses.
Your lessons should encourage students to consider different perspectives and support their conclusions with relevant evidence. You will monitor progress, provide constructive feedback and adapt lessons to ensure students receive appropriate support and challenge.

The Humanities Department encourages students to investigate historical events, understand different interpretations and recognise how the past has shaped the modern world.

History Teacher – Experience and Qualifications
Degree in History or a related subject
QTS or recognised teaching qualification
Experience teaching History at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4
GCSE History experience
Strong historical knowledge
Confidence teaching source analysis and extended writing
Effective classroom management
Good planning and assessment skills
Ability to engage students in historical debate
Commitment to student progress
Salary
The salary will be paid to scale on MPS/UPS, depending on experience and qualifications.
