Company: Delivery Mates
Location: London (Field-Based, Multiple Depots)
Pay: £120 per day, paid weekly
Contract: Self-Employed
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, normally 08:00–17:00, with occasional scheduled Saturdays

About the Role

Delivery Mates is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Cargo Bicycle Mechanic to join our growing logistics operations across London.

You will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing and repairing our fleet of commercial electric cargo bicycles, including Mubea, Rytle, Citkar and similar models .

This is not a traditional workshop-based mechanic position. You will work independently across multiple logistics depots, carrying out scheduled maintenance, responding to breakdowns and recovering non-operational cargo bikes.

We are looking for someone with excellent mechanical and electrical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspections, preventative maintenance, servicing and repairs on commercial electric cargo bicycles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, motor and battery-related faults.
  • Maintain and repair braking systems, drivetrains, steering, suspension, wheels and electrical components.
  • Inspect and safely handle lithium-ion battery systems, following manufacturer safety guidelines and fire prevention procedures.
  • Travel between multiple logistics depots across London to complete scheduled maintenance.
  • Respond to urgent breakdowns and perform on-site repairs to minimise operational downtime.
  • Recover damaged or non-operational cargo bikes from depots and other locations.
  • Transport cargo bikes between operational sites and our main facility in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire.
  • Safely load, secure and transport cargo bikes using commercial vehicles, including Luton vans.
  • Maintain accurate servicing records, report defects and identify required replacement parts.
  • Keep tools, equipment and spare parts organised.
  • Occasionally travel to manufacturer facilities in the UK or Europe for technical training and operational requirements.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial cargo bicycles or equivalent vehicles.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with electric motors, electrical systems and lithium-ion batteries.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery safety, fire prevention and safe handling procedures.
  • Your own professional tools and equipment for routine servicing and repairs.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence with the appropriate entitlement to drive large commercial vans, including Luton vans.
  • The legal Right to Work in the UK.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • The ability to work independently, manage schedules and prioritise urgent repairs.
  • Excellent reliability, punctuality and attention to detail.

Previous experience with Mubea, Rytle or Citkar cargo bikes would be particularly valuable.

Physical and Working Requirements

This is a physically demanding, mobile position rather than a conventional indoor workshop role.

You must be comfortable with:

  • Working outdoors throughout the year, including in rain, cold temperatures and challenging weather conditions where safe.
  • Lifting, moving and handling heavy cargo bike components and equipment safely.
  • Performing repairs at ground level, including working underneath cargo bikes when necessary.
  • Travelling regularly between logistics depots across London.
  • Driving longer distances to transport or recover cargo bicycles.
  • Occasional Saturday work and international travel when operationally required.

Pay and Working Arrangements

  • £120 per day.
  • Weekly payments.
  • Self-employed engagement.
  • Normally Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00.
  • Occasional scheduled Saturday shifts.
  • Variable shifts depending on operational requirements.
  • Field-based work across London, with occasional travel outside London.

Who We're Looking For

We want a dependable, hands-on mechanic who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of keeping a commercial logistics fleet operational.

The successful candidate will be proactive, organised, safety-conscious and confident working without constant supervision.

You should be comfortable dealing with unexpected mechanical problems, managing competing priorities and]]> <
