On-the-Go Mechanic
Mobile Vehicle Technician – Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) Division
Join a leading motoring services organisation and become part of a new era of mobile repair.
Why This Role Is Different
Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division delivers planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members – from driveways to workplace car parks. There are no emergency call‑outs, unpredictable shift patterns, or roadside recoveries. You’ll work from a clear, pre‑booked schedule with the tools and support you need to perform quality work.
What You’ll Do Every Day
- Perform routine servicing on light vehicles.
- Run diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment.
- Carry out in‑depth repairs typically performed in a workshop.
- Provide members with advice and recommendations based on your inspections.
- Conduct vehicle safety checks in line with organisational standards.
You’ll start each day with a digital schedule that tells you exactly where to go and what to do, allowing you to prepare and deliver each job efficiently.
Key Requirements
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles.
- Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 penalty points.
Working Conditions
- Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
- Core hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with one Saturday shift every four weeks.
- Guaranteed overtime option after the first month (optional, £30 per hour).
- Provided: fully equipped service van, fuel card, uniform, complete tool set and advanced diagnostics.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Salary – £45,378 base (including any applicable weighting), with on‑target earnings up to £57,000 through bonuses and premium‑rate overtime.
- Opt‑in Guaranteed Overtime – add extra days at £30 / hour; one extra day per month can add ~£3,000 annually.
- Vehicle & Salary Sacrifice Scheme – after 12 months you can join a car‑salary sacrifice programme (including electric vehicle options) for tax‑efficient savings.
- Holiday Entitlement – 23 days paid holiday (rising to 25 after service), plus bank holidays.
- Pension & Life Assurance – up to 6.5 % employer‑matched pension contributions and life cover up to 4 × salary (optional 10 × salary).
- Wellbeing Support – 24/7 confidential assistance available to you and household members aged 16+.
- Additional Perks – access to a discount portal for retailers, holidays, tools and tech; automatic enrolment in a colleague share scheme after probation.
Opportunities for Growth
The role offers continuous development, including training on future electric‑vehicle (EV) technologies and advanced diagnostics. You’ll gain independence, variety, and the chance to build specialist skills while working within a stable, nationally recognised organisation.
Who Thrives in This Role?
You are not only skilled with tools but also comfortable communicating directly with members. You enjoy independence, problem‑solving, and the variety that comes from working on different vehicles and tasks each day. You take pride in using your technical expertise to help people stay mobile and safe.
