Senior Creative Designer (12 month FTC)

Tails.com
Richmond, Greater London

Who are we?

Hi, we’re Tails.com – we turn good days into great years for dogs and their humans.

We're working towards longer lives for millions of healthy, happy dogs by providing tailored nutrition that adapts to each dog’s unique needs. It all starts with a few simple questions about their age, breed, zoomie level and tastebuds. From there, owners can create a personalised meal plan that's delivered to their door every month. No guesswork, no overwhelm. Just exactly the right care for every dog, every day. It's pretty clever stuff.

As a certified B Corp, being a responsible business is built into how we work – upholding high social and environmental standards to create better walkies for generations to come.

Now, we’re cooking up big plans. Having created an entirely new category in dog food, we have the backing of Purina – one of the world’s largest pet food companies. You’ll join a bunch of smart people working towards these same goals (and a bunch of very smart office dogs, all working on their own thing).

Job Title

Senior Creative Designer

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the Head of Creative Studio

Overview of the job

Ready to take the creative reins within an iconic and dynamic DTC brand? As our Senior Creative Designer, you won't just follow guidelines - you’ll spearhead how the Tails.com brand lives, breathes, and evolves across our channels. Sitting at the very beating heart of our in-house Creative Studio, this role bridges strategy thinking with hands-on craft. One day you’ll be directing a high-energy campaign shoot or pitching conceptual big ideas; the next, you’ll be perfecting tactile unboxing moments and high-converting digital assets. Working hand-in-hand with our Senior Copywriter as a core creative power-duo, you’ll collaborate with a talented team of permanent and freelance creatives to translate big-picture strategy into standout work that pet parents - and their dogs - will love.

3 best things about the job

  • Creative Ownership: You aren’t just taking briefs and pushing pixels - you’re driving how Tails.com shows up to the world. You’ll have genuine influence over how our brand evolves across integrated campaigns, shoot art direction, and high-impact touchpoints across the UK.

  • True Cross-Channel Mastery: From tactile unboxing experiences and direct mail campaigns to high-performing digital ads and CRM, you get to execute across the full spectrum of print and digital design without being boxed into a single niche.

  • High-Impact Studio Culture: You’ll join an award-winning, collaborative, fast-moving in-house studio where creative testing is celebrated and your work directly impacts revenue and retention.

Measures of success – In the first few months, you would have:

  • Get your teeth into our brand identity and be using it like your own handwriting.

  • Delivered your first major multi channel creative project, seamlessly translating core strategy into high-impact digital assets and tactile print touchpoints.

  • Collaborated on or art-directing your first shoot - from concept moodboards to on-set execution.

  • Built strong, high-trust partnerships with acquisition and retention teams, using performance data to refine, test, and elevate future design concepts.

  • Established yourself as a go-to creative anchor in the studio, raising the bar for craft and supporting other creatives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Champion the Creative Vision: Help shape, evolve, and safeguard the Tails.com brand identity across all channels, ensuring visual consistency and creative ambition in everything we produce.

  • Lead Integrated Campaigns: Conceptualise and execute end-to-end design solutions across digital (paid social, CRM, display, web assets) and print (direct mail, packaging, inserts, print media).

  • Champion Print & Digital Excellence: Apply high-level typography, layout, artworking, and production knowledge across both physical and digital mediums, adapting design styles effectively to meet diverse channel requirements.

  • Turn Insights into Art: Partner with Performance Marketing, Brand, and CRM teams to turn data, creative testing insights, and customer feedback into scalable, high-performing design concepts.

  • Art Direction: Pitch concepts, lead storyboarding, and direct photo and video shoots (both lifestyle and studio) to generate brand and campaign assets.

  • Collaborate & Mentor: Act as a key sounding board for senior stakeholders, while setting high visual standards and offering constructive feedback to other creatives within the studio.

  • Optimize Studio Process: Work closely with our Creative Traffic & Assets Coordinator to ensure design pipelines run smoothly, feedback loops are efficient, and final assets are delivered accurately and on time.

What you will need:

  • Experience: 6+ years of design experience within an in-house DTC brand, agency, or consumer-facing creative studio.

  • Dual Mastery (Print & Digital): Proven expertise spanning both digital-first performance creative (paid social formats, email, web) and traditional print design (direct mail, packaging, print production/artworking).

  • Vision & Ownership: A track record of taking broad strategic briefs, setting the art direction, and successfully pitching and executing visual campaigns.

  • DTC & Performance Savvy: A strong understanding of how design impacts conversion, customer acquisition, and retention metrics.

  • Art Direction & Campaign Experience: Hands-on experience planning, directing, and executing photography/videography shoots.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma. Knowledge of After Effects, or basic motion design is a distinct advantage.

  • Communication & Influence: Ability to present creative ideas clearly to non-creative stakeholders and advocate passionately for craft quality.

  • Adaptability: A flexible, positive mindset suited to a fast-paced DTC environment where agility and iteration are key.

A few of our core benefits include:

  • Private Healthcare through AXA

  • A 9 day fortnight - our office is closed every other Friday!

  • 25 days of Annual Leave and 8 additional remote working days
