Teacher of Physical Education (with responsibility for Girls' Games)

Kew House School
London

Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London – academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. A character-selective school, we pride ourselves on the support and care we extend to our 600 pupils whilst striving to add value to their success in all fields of academia, sport, and creativity. Kew House has successfully grown over ten years since its foundation and was recently awarded the ISI “Excellent” grading.

Facilities

The buildings are equipped with modern facilities with interactive smartboards and access to iPads. The school is well-placed to make maximum use of the full range of sporting facilities close to the school. These include the home of our games provision at Trailfinders Sports Club (Ealing), Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre, the River Thames for rowing, and a full range of athletics facilities nearby. The facilities we have access to ensure the delivery of a dynamic and exhilarating curriculum for our pupils.

Curriculum

Sport has a role of great importance within the curriculum, and all year groups enjoy at least four hours of sport per week. The department is exceptionally well-resourced and highly successful. The school’s aim is to provide a rich and broad education to all pupils, whatever their specialism. Whilst we aim to achieve the highest academic results for each pupil, we do not serve as an examination “factory”.

Extra-Curricular

The department runs an extensive extra-curricular programme, which consists of sport, creative activities, and curriculum extension sessions. We invite guest speakers and run workshops to inspire our pupils. Residential trips and visits to other schools are encouraged, making the optimum use of the resources and facilities available locally, nationally, and internationally.

All staff are expected to have a clear understanding of the aims, objectives, and ethos of the school, and an awareness of its role in the community. It is essential that the academic and pastoral frameworks in the school are seen as interrelated.

We are seeking a hardworking, organised, and friendly team player to join the department as a Teacher of Physical Education , with responsibility for Girls' Games.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a good degree in an appropriate subject and a recognised teaching qualification.

  • Promote a love of sport for every pupil by delivering engaging and stimulating lessons which set appropriate learning expectations and targets for improvement.

  • Have experience of, or a desire and commitment to, teaching engaging and challenging academic PE lessons at KS4 and/or KS5.

  • Have the capacity to raise attainment through motivating, challenging, and inspiring our pupils.

  • Have a broad knowledge and understanding of sport and be able to develop curriculum materials to develop learning at KS3, GCSE, and A Level PE.

  • Have experience or demonstrable understanding of the use of online platforms to support pupils’ learning.

  • Help foster a culture of high expectations of language learning and accuracy within the department.

  • Have drive, enthusiasm, warmth, and humour, along with modelling a deep passion for sport, fitness and physical education.

  • Have a willingness to work as a team and to collaborate with colleagues within a successful department.

  • Engage in clubs, societies, and additional revision sessions throughout the year. Providing expertise within and commitment to the school's extensive co-curricular program is essential.

  • Support the pastoral aspects of the school as a personal tutor (PT). The duties outlined in this are non-exhaustive.

Candidates should demonstrate how they meet these selection criteria in their application form/CVs, supporting statement, and interview, including supporting tasks.

How to Apply

Kew House School will only accept completed application forms and equal opportunities forms. Please email those to [email protected]

CVs will not be accepted as a substitute, but may be submitted alongside the application forms.

Closing date: Noon on Tuesday, 26th May 2026.

Suitable applicants will be contacted by telephone or email and invited to attend an interview. However, interviews will take place as and when suitable applications are received, so early applications are strongly encouraged.

Kew House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
