Senior Underwriter, Sovereign Credit & Political Risk Insurance, Credit & Surety

About the Role
As a Senior Underwriter, you'll play a crucial role in our expanding Credit & Surety division, applying your expertise to complex cross-border transactions while helping shape our strategic direction in key global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and enhance relationships with global financial institutions, corporate clients, and brokers, serving as a trusted advisor for risk solutions
- Analyze new business opportunities by conducting thorough assessments of political, sovereign, sub sovereign credit, macro-economic, and ESG-related risks
- Shape team strategy and appetite through thoughtful risk evaluation and recommendation development
- Prepare and defend transaction approval submissions to senior decision makers
- Contribute to risk management efforts including transaction monitoring, amendments, restructurings, and portfolio-focused projects
- Collaborate across functions with operations, credit risk management, legal & compliance, claims and ESG specialist colleagues
- Represent Swiss Re at industry conferences and events, enhancing our market presence
About the Team
We are a collaborative team of underwriting professionals who provide sovereign, sub sovereign credit and political risk insurance solutions to financial institutions and other corporate clients engaged in the financing of trade and investment in cross-border transactions and projects across the world, focusing mainly on developing and emerging market countries. We sit in the wider Credit and Surety division in Swiss Re, a key focus for growth for the company.
About You
You're an analytical thinker with a passion for geopolitical and economic trends, able to navigate complex risk scenarios while building strong client relationships. Your ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and work collaboratively in a multicultural environment sets you apart as a trusted risk advisor.
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- Minimum five years of experience underwriting or broking credit and political risks with client-facing experience
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to form independent judgments on complex geopolitical and economic issues
- Demonstrated experience in relationship management with clients and brokers
- Proficiency in credit and financial statement analysis with strong presentation skills
Additionally, you will have:
- Experience drafting and assessing contractual documentation, particularly insurance contracts
- Background in ESG risk assessment
- Experience working in multicultural and cross-functional environments #LI-Hybrid
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week.
For London, the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 106 000 and GBP 158 000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
