Lead Clinical Scientist
Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.
We are looking for a Lead Clinical Scientist to join us in a new, highly influential role. You will be the Scientific expert within an agile, cross functional team enabling Recontact studies - a key part of Our Future Health's mission to accelerate translational research.
Collaborating with Product, Ethics, Behavioural Scientists, Software & Data Engineers, you will develop the processes and tools needed to deliver recontact capabilities for both observational and interventional studies and clinical trials in compliance with the relevant ethical and regulatory frameworks, and Clinical Good Practice.
Your duties will include :
- Study proposal review: Establish and lead a process for scientific evaluation of recontact study proposals submitted by researchers to evaluate feasibility, novelty, scope, and scientific utility.
- Researcher consultation: Engage, consult, and advise researchers to support development of recontact study designs that are feasible, deliver the highest scientific value, and adhere to GCP
- Study design and delivery: Provide scientific support in delivery of recontact studies, including cohort selection, development of study materials, review of protocols, participant invitations, and PPIE activities.
- Recontact study capabilities: Provide scientific input into prioritisation and product decisions in development of recontact capabilities and features based on researcher needs, study types, and GCP and regulatory requirements.
- Strategy: Work together with Product and Commercial teams to define and deliver on a long-term strategy for developing a comprehensive recontact offering that facilitates a broad range of epidemiological, translational, and clinical research, maximizing the value Our Future Health offers to both researchers and participants
- Governance: Contribute to annual and quarterly planning and reviewing of work, with a focus on prioritisation, interdependencies, risks and risk mitigations.
- Compliance: Demonstrate support of organisational compliance requirements, including policies, procedures, and controls.
- Outreach: Attend meetings and conferences as a representative for Our Future Health.
Requirements
- PhD (or equivalent experience) in epidemiology, clinical, or molecular sciences, biostatistics, genetics, or closely related discipline.
- You enjoy the changing environment of a small, growing organisation and have experienced designing observational studies or clinical trials from the ground up.
- Deep knowledge of participant selection and invitation methodologies, including study protocols, data linkage, informed consent, and participant burden considerations.
- Hands-on experience in analysis of large complex molecular and epidemiological datasets (e.g. identifying sub-cohorts by genetic, demographic or EHR criteria).
- Experience of critical scientific peer-review (e.g. article peer-review, grant panels, editorial boards, or institutional review of study proposals).
- Experience working as part of cross-functional teams with product managers, software engineers, and data teams in an agile environment.
Let's prevent disease together.
