Solution Architect

As a Senior Solution Architect supporting one of our largest Local Government accounts, you'll shape solutions across a diverse technology estate and influence major transformation, application modernisation and strategic change. You'll take ownership of complex architectural decisions, explore creative approaches to evolving technology challenges and provide trusted advice that turns business needs into practical, secure and supportable solutions. Working alongside Enterprise Architects, technical specialists, delivery teams and client stakeholders, you'll be part of a collaborative community where expertise is shared, ideas are encouraged and you're supported to broaden your impact and help shape the future of Local Government technology., Whilst this is a hybrid position you will need to attend CGI and client offices in Glasgow at least 3 days per week.Candidate profile In this role, you will take ownership of solution architecture across projects, programmes and strategic initiatives, helping the client make informed technology decisions from initial demand through to implementation and operational support. You'll develop pragmatic, secure and supportable architectures, evaluating options and clearly communicating trade-offs to ensure solutions balance business priorities, technical quality and long-term strategy. Working alongside Enterprise Architects, Technical Leads, Delivery Managers, Service Management teams and client stakeholders, you'll have the opportunity to challenge established thinking and explore new approaches to application modernisation and cloud transformation. You'll be supported by a wider architecture community while contributing your own expertise to strengthen governance, standards, roadmaps and CGI's Managed Enterprise Architecture Service (MEAS).

  • Architect & Deliver: Develop pragmatic, secure and supportable solution architectures aligned with business requirements and strategic technology direction.
  • Evaluate & Advise: Assess technology options, articulate trade-offs and provide evidence-based recommendations that enable better decisions.
  • Shape & Modernise: Support application modernisation, cloud transformation and strategic technology change across a diverse estate.
  • Govern & Assure: Contribute to architecture governance and design assurance, maintaining alignment throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Identify & Resolve: Surface architectural risks, dependencies and constraints early and help teams develop practical approaches to address them.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Build trusted relationships across architecture, delivery, service management, suppliers and client teams.
  • Communicate & Engage: Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for technical specialists and senior business stakeholders.
  • Improve & Evolve: Strengthen architecture standards, technology roadmaps, reusable practices and the wider MEAS capability.

    You'll bring proven Solution Architecture experience within complex technology environments, combining strong technical judgement with the ability to understand business challenges and turn them into practical architectural decisions. You'll be comfortable influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders, constructively challenging assumptions and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect within a complex enterprise technology environment.
  • Strong solution design capability, with experience creating secure, practical and supportable architectures.
  • Proven ability to evaluate technology options and trade-offs and develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience supporting transformation and modernisation initiatives, ideally involving complex application estates or cloud technologies.
  • Good understanding of architecture governance and design assurance, including maintaining architectural alignment through delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across client, supplier and delivery organisations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technology decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong technical judgement and problem-solving capability, balancing immediate delivery needs with longer-term technology strategy.
  • A collaborative approach to architecture, with the confidence to challenge constructively while supporting colleagues and delivery teams.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with experience contributing to architecture standards, roadmaps, governance or reusable practices.
