Assistant Psychologist

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
London

Job overview

Please note that this post may close early due a high volume of applications

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible Assistant Psychologist to become part of a integrated psychology team within the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at King’s College Hospital (KCH). This opportunity has arisen as a result of an innovative programme of work within London’s four MTC's that has been supported by funding from the NHS London Violence Reduction Programme team in collaboration with Specialised Commissioning.

The initial stage of the two-year project was to pilot the model to provide proof of concept and evidence of its value. This was initially a two year pilot, however the funding to sustain the service has been confirmed. Additional funding has been allocated to support routine data collection across the four London MTCs and to evaluate the success and impact of the pilot against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The overall objective of this model is to develop and provide a comprehensive integrated model of care for major trauma patients that ensures equity of high quality physical and psychological trauma care in London’s MTCs which can be stepped up when a major incident occurs.

The successful post holder will work closely with the Practitioner Psychologists and other psychology colleagues in the MTC at KCH to deliver and operationalise the integrated model of psychological care for survivors of major trauma.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the practitioner psychologist in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the MTC at KCH.
  • To provide clinical work as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
  • To ensure that systems are in place for the effective administration and management of the patient screening and referral process. This will include providing key support for the collation of new referrals, requesting additional referral information if required, presenting referrals in the team meeting, providing necessary telephone triage and helping to manage the appointment system.
  • To assist in clinical and service-related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To work following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager.
