Pastoral and Behaviour Support Manager – Secondary School – Lambeth, London
Location: Lambeth, London
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
School Information
A secondary school in Lambeth is seeking a confident and committed Pastoral and Behaviour Support Manager to strengthen its provision for pupil behaviour, wellbeing and engagement. The school is focused on maintaining a respectful learning environment where clear expectations are balanced with appropriate support for pupils who experience challenges.
The successful candidate will work closely with heads of year, senior leaders, teaching staff and safeguarding colleagues to ensure that behaviour concerns are addressed consistently. The school values early intervention and positive relationships, recognising that effective pastoral support can help pupils improve their engagement and achieve better outcomes.
The Role
The Pastoral and Behaviour Support Manager will coordinate behaviour interventions and provide guidance to pupils who require additional support to meet the school's expectations.
Responsibilities will include monitoring behaviour incidents, identifying recurring concerns and coordinating appropriate interventions with relevant staff. The postholder will work with pupils to encourage reflection, improve decision-making and develop strategies for managing challenging situations.
The successful applicant will support the implementation of behaviour policies, help maintain consistent classroom expectations and contribute to reintegration arrangements following serious incidents or suspensions. They will work with teachers to identify pupils who may benefit from targeted mentoring, structured support or additional pastoral guidance.
The role will involve meeting with parents and carers, documenting discussions and ensuring that agreed actions are followed up. The postholder will also review behaviour information to identify patterns and help the school develop strategies to reduce repeated incidents.
In addition, the manager will support the wider pastoral team with attendance concerns, pupil wellbeing and the coordination of individual support plans. They will work with safeguarding colleagues when concerns arise and ensure that relevant information is recorded and shared appropriately.
The successful candidate will need to balance firm expectations with a supportive approach, helping pupils understand the impact of their actions while encouraging them to make positive changes. Strong communication, sound judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential.
Requirements
Applicants should have substantial experience in behaviour management, pastoral support, youth work or a similar educational role. Previous responsibility for coordinating interventions or supporting a team would be advantageous.
Candidates must have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, alongside a confident understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries. The ability to analyse behaviour patterns, maintain accurate records and work effectively with families and external professionals is important.
The successful applicant should be resilient, fair and committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
What the School Offers
The school offers the opportunity to take an active role in developing its pastoral provision and promoting positive behaviour. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced colleagues and contribute to initiatives that support pupils' wellbeing, engagement and educational progress.
Application
If you have experience supporting pupil behaviour and are ready to take on a wider pastoral responsibility, please send your CV for consideration.
