SME Portfolio Underwriting Lead
About the role
At Superscript, we’re on a mission to redefine SME insurance, leading the next generation of insurance-digitally. To help us on our exciting mission, we’re seeking an experienced and dynamic SME Portfolio Underwriting Lead to oversee and drive profitable growth within SME, including our mid-market segment!
The Portfolio Underwriting Lead will define and execute our SME underwriting strategy, lead underwriting initiatives, manage underwriting performance, develop trading relationships with insurers and partners, and support the execution of our business strategy across our Landlord, Tradespersons, Professionals, and SME products.
What you'll get up to:
Technical underwriting focused on SME underwriting strategy, performance analysis, product development and oversight of delegated arrangements.
Develop the SME underwriting strategy aligning to the wider business strategy and objectives.
Support the management of our SME product portfolio, reviewing how we’re performing and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Lead product simplification efforts and ensure product value and clarity for customers, aligning to Consumer Duty and other regulatory responsibilities.
Working in collaboration with multi-disciplined trading teams, including Product, Commercial and Data Science.
Developing and evolving market leading wordings for SME products.
Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers and partners to promote profitable growth.
Lead in the design and refinement of SME products and propositions.
Provide oversight and support to a team of underwriters and SME trading teams, offering guidance, training, and development.
Ensure underwriting practices comply with FCA requirements, internal governance, and delegated authorities.
Participate in audits and conduct risk assessments where required.
About you:
Proven experience in commercial SME underwriting, with a strong track record of technical underwriting and trading.
Extensive knowledge of SME insurance products, risk evaluation, product development optimisation, and rating methodologies.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, especially with insurers and partners.
Strategic mindset with the ability to use data to drive decisions.
Familiarity with FCA regulations and UK insurance compliance standards.
Dip CII or equivalent preferred.
