Senior Catastrophe Pricing Analyst
Job Type:
Permanent Build a brilliant future with Hiscox
About the team/division:
Our team of twenty underwriters and seven pricing analysts focus on Property lines written within the London Market. Seventy five percent of business is written through delegated authority binders and lineslips, with the remainder consisting of direct and facultative, shared and layered open market placements.
We are looking for a senior analyst to join our pricing team to work on our direct and facultative Major Property business. Our clients are major businesses with significant physical assets across the globe, but primarily in the US. The role will involve a mix of risk pricing, natural catastrophe modelling, tool development, portfolio analytics and general research.
Expectations are high, but the team enjoys a well-established, lead market position; we have an excellent track record of outperforming our peers. Our challenge is to drive the business forward in a fast-evolving marketplace.
The role
We are looking for an ambitious, innovative individual who is eager to learn. We want an individual who can develop a high level of technical expertise and communicate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders. You will need to confidently make sound business decisions and be able to back these up with relevant facts and figures. You will need to find solutions to problems where there isn’t an established approach, think on your feet, influence other decision makers and collaborate across multiple teams. You should also be inquisitive, eager to learn and passionate about making a difference and adding value to the team.
What you’ll be doing as a Senior Pricing Analyst in the Property team:
- Providing analytical support for the property underwriters and management through risk pricing, natural catastrophe modelling, model development and portfolio analysis
- Finding insight in large data sets and engaging in research to gain competitive advantage
- Using new techniques to help us get the most from our data (and wider data sources)
- Provide high quality pricing analysis to help assess the expected profitability of new opportunities
- Clear and concise communication of complex issues to a wide variety of stakeholders
Our must-haves:
- Educated to degree level in a numerical subject, 2:1 or above
- Nat-Cat modelling experience, preferably in RiskLink
- Strong technical skills – experienced user of analytical tools, including at least two of Excel / SQL / R / Python / VBA
- Good communicator to a wide range of audiences (both technical and non-technical)
- Speak and write fluent business English
- Be curious about the subject matter
Our nice-to-haves:
- Tableau desktop experience
- 2+ years of direct pricing experience
- Understanding of insurance processes such as capital modelling, reserving and reinsurance purchase
About Hiscox
As an international specialist insurer, we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead, we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - our culture encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.
We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.
Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.
Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.
Diversity and flexible working at Hiscox
At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we’re committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success. We also understand that working life doesn’t always have to be ‘nine to five’ and we support flexible working wherever we can. No promises, but please chat to our resourcing team about the flexibility we could offer for this role.
