Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Our producer responsibility work aims to ensure that waste resulting from packaging is recycled, either here in the UK or exported overseas to facilities where it is safely and effectively recycled - 'right waste, right place'. You will be key to planning, monitoring and delivering compliance and enforcement activity within your area of waste regulation, to drive a circular economy.This role will be based in the Packaging South team within Collections & Packaging Regimes, part of Waste Markets and Shipments.Find out about our wider team here - a Regulatory Officer, you will:Undertake audit and enforcement work, both desk-based and in the fieldCollate, analyse and use complex data to help make evidence-based decisions on regulation complianceAnswer technical queries; interpret and diagnose
problems and develop solutionsDevelop further relationships with customers and stakeholdersDeal with confidential and sensitive information whilst keeping in line with data protection guidelinesContribute to the development and improvement of processes, procedures, and operational instructionsWork with businesses to bring them into compliance and investigate companies suspected of non-compliance. This work can involve conducting interviews under caution and compiling of casefiles for our legal teams.Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. your preferred working arrangements on your application.The teamAs part of the Packaging South team, you will be based in or near the South East. The team consists of Regulatory Officers and Senior Technical Officers who specialise in monitoring compliance at regulated sites, assessing processes and data to ensure conditions under the Packaging Waste Regulations are met. The team also undertake enforcement action where offences have occurred. The team is friendly, supportive and dedicated. We encourage our colleagues' health, safety, wellbeing and development.Experience/skills RequiredWe are looking for people with various types of experience who can demonstrate the capabilities and interpersonal skills needed for the role. Waste industry or regulatory experience is not necessary as you will receive full training. We are looking for people who enjoy desk-based working as well as site visits.You must hold a full valid UK driving licence as you will be required to travel and
