Extended Scope Podiatrist Musculoskeletal Service

Job summary
Support the Specialist Lead MSK Podiatrist in the co-ordination and leadership of the musculoskeletal aspect of care within the Department of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and play a key role in ensuring the service meets expected results with reference to national and local policies. The post holder must be able to demonstrate a specialist knowledge base within the chosen field including recognised extended scope training (diagnostic ultrasound, injection therapy, joint mobilisation, acupuncture) and act as a role model for providing quality care to patients and an expert training resource to AHP's, GP's and other health and social care colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The Foot Health Service delivers specialist care to a diverse patient population presenting with foot and lower limb conditions, primarily within a primary care setting. Led by an experienced team comprising of Specialist Podiatrists, the service provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of foot deformities and pathologies.

Education & Qualifications
Essential

• Degree or diploma in Podiatry recognised for HCPC registration.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Podiatrist.

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification or specialist training in musculoskeletal podiatry, injection therapy, clinical education or a
• Membership of a relevant professional or specialist interest group. o Management or leadership training.

Skill/Abilities
Essential

• Ability to communicate complex, sensitive and potentially distressing information clearly and compassionately to patients, carers and colleagues.
• Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and care-planning skills for complex musculoskeletal foot and ankle conditions.
• Ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload, work autonomously, meet deadlines and respond appropriately to pressure.

Desirable

• Competence in local anaesthetic administration.
• Competence in steroid or other therapeutic injection techniques.

Experience
Essential

• Substantial post-registration podiatry experience in musculosketelal care, including management of complex and specialist caseloads with a high degree of autonomy

Desirable

• Experience of staff supervision, student education, rotation support or competency assessment.

Knowledge
Essential

• Advanced specialist knowledge of musculoskeletal podiatry and the management of complex foot and ankle conditions.
• Knowledge of relevant national and local podiatry strategy, clinical guidance, professional standards and legislation.

Desirable

• Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and interfaces of other professional groups across primary, community and secondary care.

• Understanding and demonstration of the Trust Values
• Flexible and willing to work across community sites in Hackney according to service need.
