Business Development Manager
Who are you?
We’re looking for a Business Development Manager with healthcare sales experience, ideally within the NHS, to join our growing Commercial team.
This isn’t a typical transactional sales role. Our approach is consultative, and often closer to “consulting that sells”. NHS Trusts, ICSs and ICBs are our clients, and the patient experience is at the heart of everything we do.
You’ll be comfortable working with long, complex sales cycles and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders. You’ll bring the ability to listen, analyse, and structure solutions that solve real problems – balancing commercial acumen with empathy for the challenges the NHS faces.
OK, that’s me, but who are DrDoctor?
Take a look at our careers page () to find out a bit more about our mission, vision, and impact!
But ultimately, we 💚 the NHS and want to help it work better. We radically transform the delivery of health services to make healthcare work for everyone – for patients, doctors, administrative teams and taxpayers.
What would I be doing day to day?
One of the great things about a scale-up is that every day is different and there is always an opportunity to get involved in something outside of your ‘BAU’!
However, the key things you could expect would include:
- Growing pipeline by prospecting and opening doors in new accounts where DrDoctor has no existing footprint.
- Building long-term, trusted relationships with NHS leaders at multiple levels – from operational managers to C-Suite.
- Running consultative discovery conversations to uncover needs and co-design solutions.
- Confidently pitching and demoing DrDoctor to a range of audiences, both virtually and in-person.
- Collaborating with our product, delivery, and integration teams to scope the right solutions.
- Producing compelling proposals and presentations that link our capabilities and expertise to identified problem areas and desired outcomes
- Negotiating and closing deals that balance value for clients with DrDoctor’s growth.
- Feeding back market insights, regional priorities and funding opportunities to the business.
- Keeping on top of your pipeline, forecasting accurately, and hitting monthly KPIs, quarterly OKR’s and annual targets.
- Continuously learning and sharing what works, both with clients and across the team.
OK, I’m interested. What experience do I need to have?
Must haves:
- Demonstrated success in enterprise or public sector technology and/or consulting sales with long, complex sales cycles.
- Experience meeting or exceeding annual sales targets.
- Ability to adapt communication style for varying NHS stakeholders and personalities.
- A consultative selling style – able to simplify complex problems, ask the right discovery questions and shape solutions conversationally and in writing.
- Commercial acumen: strategic deal planning, structuring proposals, and influencing procurement.
- Hustle and drive – proactive, resilient, and not afraid to pick up the phone.
- Strong working knowledge of the NHS and NHS procurement processes.
Nice to haves:
- Background in management consulting, NHS graduate scheme, or transformation roles.
- Previous SaaS or digital health sales experience.
- Existing network of NHS digital decision-makers across Trusts or ICBs.
- Understanding of the patient portal market, EPRs/PAS.
- Experience as a solutions architect, management consultant or similar
