SO1 Media Campaigns

A vacancy has arisen for a Wg Cdr (Any Profession) to serve as SO1 Media Campaigns at RAF High Wycombe on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date being 04 May 2026 or earlier/later subject to candidates status.

Air Media & Communications (Air M&C) is responsible for the delivery of communications that increase understanding of role the RAF plays in protecting the nation now and in the future. We maintain protect and enhance the reputation of the RAF also creating a foundation for recruitment and retention. We achieve this by continuously raising our standards with new and engaging ways to grow our audience demonstrating communications leadership and expertise as the subject matter experts for media and communications.

Air M&C covers the full spectrum of communication disciplines from internal and external communications including digital news and PR. Air M&C is cohered around the RAF Communications Strategy with communication specialists who deliver effective and engaging content for news campaigns and events. We work closely and collaboratively with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) communications team other communications teams across the Armed Forces Industry and the RAF Family of organisations that support our outputs. We share one purpose: to tell the RAF story by finding the right medium for the right message to get to the right audience at the right time.

The incumbent will be a key member of the Air M&C Team responsible in general for proactive media and communications to support RAF and Defence Messaging for a diverse range of activity linked to RAF media campaigns. The area is characterised by issues which often require delicate handling to meet HMG MoD and RAF intent where a broad range of stakeholders have differing and often contradictory/competing aims/requirements. The role requires extensive comms experience of the field knowledge and understanding of the relevant networks and individuals within it and the ability to provide clear concise and cogent advice as required. You will be the media champion for the RAFs campaigns management and its successes and achievements.

You will be responsible through the CoC for:

• Deliver a holistic campaign management system across Air M&C.
• Drive the delivery of a campaign approach across Air M&C.
• Lead delivery of critical PR Projects within a campaigns approach.
• Develop a campaigns approach across the MCO network.
• Embed best practice from Evaluation within Air M&C planning & delivery.
• Support collective planning to concentrate activity across Air M&C.
• Ensure that all communications plans in area of responsibility align to Defence No10 and Air M&C messaging.
• Support other departments within Air M&C for planned surge activity: Media Ops Capability Ceremonial Plans/Strategy Internal.
• When required support Air M&C Crisis Communications for example lead teams of Regular Reserve and Civil Servants to deliver the RAFs response to a crisis.
• Provide resilience to Air M&C and DDC including Duty Ops Officer.

The post is based at RAF High Wycombe with home working opportunities. There will be occasional working at MOD Main Building (DDC) and external partner locations. The post is suitable for someone from Any Branch specialisation. However the incumbent must be a qualified communications professional and have significant relevant communications experience.
