A progressive and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Islington is seeking a dedicated EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant to join its Early Years team. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring professional who is passionate about early intervention and supporting children with additional needs at the very start of their educational journey.

About the School

The school is a welcoming, community-focused primary serving a diverse inner-London population. Inclusion, equality, and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of the school’s ethos, and staff work collaboratively to ensure all children feel safe, valued, and supported. The Early Years provision is a strength of the school, offering a rich, play-based curriculum supported by experienced practitioners.

The leadership team is highly supportive, with a strong focus on professional development and staff wellbeing. SEN provision is well established, with clear systems in place to support children and families effectively.

The Role

You will work closely with children in Nursery or Reception who have a range of Special Educational Needs, including autism spectrum condition, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and social and emotional challenges.

You will play a key role in helping children develop communication, independence, and emotional regulation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide SEN support in line with EHCPs and individual learning plans

  • Support access to the EYFS curriculum through structured play

  • Promote communication, interaction, and social development

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Use visual supports, routines, and sensory strategies

  • Assist with personal care and toileting when required

  • Observe and record progress, sharing feedback with teaching staff

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCo and external professionals

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in EYFS

  • Be patient, empathetic, and nurturing

  • Have a strong understanding of early childhood development

  • Be flexible, proactive, and reliable

  • Communicate effectively with children and adults

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment

  • Ongoing EYFS and SEN training

  • Clear guidance and mentoring

  • Well-resourced Early Years settings

  • Opportunities for professional progression

This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to young children’s lives.
