Role Overview

A welcoming primary school in Merton is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated Year 1 Teacher to join their Key Stage 1 team ASAP. In this key role, you will guide young learners through the crucial transition from Early Years (EYFS) into formal Key Stage 1 education. You will design a supportive, play-based, and structured classroom environment that fosters early literacy, numeracy, and confidence in every child. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers are equally encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the developmental needs of Year 1 pupils.

• Lead daily systematic synthetic phonics sessions to support early reading development and prepare pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.

• Establish clear, gentle classroom routines that facilitate a smooth transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations.

• Collaborate with teaching assistants, the SENCO, and pastoral leads to provide targeted support for pupils with SEND or English as an Additional Language (EAL).

• Build positive, collaborative partnerships with parents and carers to support home learning and pupil wellbeing.

Key Requirements

• Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

• Proven experience or strong placement history in Key Stage 1 or EYFS settings.

• Sound understanding of accredited systematic synthetic phonics schemes (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or Sounds-Write).

• Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Legal right to work in the UK.
