Overview:
This role will provide second line oversight of the Treasury function and associated Financial Market sales and trading activities within ABC IB.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide robust oversight and challenge of the risk and control environment daily, working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve processes, and to assist the business to achieve their growth strategy safely. The role will also be accountable for the stewardship of various analytic tools, models, and calculations processes, specifically those linked to the Treasury function, but also extending to other areas such as credit if required. People management will be required as the team grows.
What You Will Be Doing:
Market Risk
- Primary contact for all Market Risk relevant activities for the Bank.
- Build, develop, and maintain the control framework on all related treasury and market risk operational activities, including VaR, BPV and FX Open Position, and other Treasury Limit excesses.
- Analysis of the daily market risk & middle office reports, offering assistance and resolution where appropriate.
- Consider all New Product proposals for the Business, providing expertise and challenge from a Risk perspective, ensuring growth is managed in a practical and sustainable manner.
- Work with stakeholders to improve market risk monitoring reporting and tools, to provide up-to-date and accurate analysis of the Treasury book and relevant exposures.
Various Data and Information Initiatives
- Assist in the development of the bank’s digital transformation.
- Oversee the improvement in the delivery and workflow automation of information held on SQL server.
- Continually improve and document data management for risk reporting
- Develop and maintain documentation for all key data flows for risk reporting.
- Continually maintain and enhance the accuracy of data used in key risk reports.
Stress Testing
- Contribute to other portfolio reporting, forecasting, and stress-testing exercises.
- As directed, contribute to other portfolio analyst and reporting tasks including forecasting under defined scenarios and potential stresses.
People Management
- Lead by example, developing junior members of the team through mentorship and training. Be a positive role model.
- Deputise to the Head of Enterprise Risk upon request, and in their absence
- Engage with Senior stakeholders across the business on a regular basis, being the point person for all Market Risk related matters.
- Represent Market Risk at a senior level, attending governance forums upon invitation.
Organisational Scope
The above activities will be performed at a consolidated legal entity level (ABCIB), and at a standalone level for the European subsidiary (ABCSA) and the residual UK-based operations (“ABC Solo”). The primary functional currencies for reporting are therefore USD, GBP, and EUR.
Candidate Specification :
Market Risk
The job holder will need to be technical and analytical with industry experience in Market Risk or a Treasury-related function, evidencing a good understanding of the markets and products offerings Bank ABC operates in. The individual should be able to contextualise the business needs, and how this impacts, and is embedded within the organistion from an Operational perspective. Whilst the business is in a growth phase, they should be sensitive to the requirements whilst being comfortable maintaining second line oversight and independence.
People Management
The job holder will deputise to the Head of Enterprise Risk upon request, therefore, should be comfortable representing the risk team and confident liaising with senior stakeholders on a variety of risk matters. The individual will act as a role model within risk, and evidence opportunity for promoting change and improvements across risk disciplines and develop more junior risk team members.
Knowledge
- Commercial Banking products incl. Trade Finance and Treasury
- Deep understanding of market risk
- IT literate, strong proficiency with Excel, VBA and SQL is a plus
- Numerate with excellent research and reporting abilities
Education and Experience
- Quantitative disciplines studied in advanced/higher education, e.g. Maths, Economics, Physics, Other Sciences / Equivalent industry experience
- Other qualifications an advantage such as FRM
- Extensive knowledge (10+ years) and industry experience in Market Risk, Financial Markets, Sales and Trading, and/or Treasuries
- Stress testing would be advantageous
