Junior Product Designer (Home & Gift, 9 - 12 Month Maternity Cover Contract)

We are looking for a Junior Product Designer to join Team OB’s Home & Gift Design team in our Support Office on a 9 – 12 month maternity cover contract.

As a Junior Product Designer at OB you will be self-motivated and passionate, with a flexible approach and be part of our Design team’s continued growth and success. In your role, you will develop and create inspirational designs across the home and gift categories.

Reporting to the Product Designers, you will work collaboratively with the Design team to deliver and develop inspirational collections in line with the Oliver Bonas design handwriting. You will translate concepts into designs across a variety of categories within a fast paced and creative environment, using a flexible approach with the ability to carry out multiple projects simultaneously to tight deadlines.

Using your strong self-awareness and organisational skills, you will collaborate closely with the other designers on the team and experiment with creative ideas and an energetic approach to your work, sharing new ideas and designs that are brand appropriate. You will also be responsible for some administrative tasks.

Our Support Office is based in Tolworth, near Chessington, only a 30-minute journey from London Waterloo. We offer hybrid working with a split of 3 days in the office and 2 days home working per week, and are open to having conversations about working flexibly.

An OB Junior Product Designer will:

• Work on multiple designs and briefs from across the Home and Gift categories, using effective prioritisation skills to ensure all deadlines are met

• Manage and adhere to the product design development critical path for own area

• Translate seasonal design concepts into designs that respond to the business needs for the relevant product category

• Ensure the OB brand values are reflected in all areas of work from design through to production

• Develop designs from initial concept, sketch, briefing, art-working, product rendering, 3D printing prototypes through to product approval

• Collaborate with the Print Designer and Buying and Merchandising teams to ensure the collection is cohesive

• Assist the Head of Home and Gift Design and Design team in creating seasonal department concepts and themes, colour palettes and trend research that are in line with the brands handwriting and vision

• Produce and maintain packaging concept packs each season in relation to key areas that you work on, that are to be shared with the relevant teams and suppliers

• Generate new and original designs based on these findings and ensure that OB brand values are reflected in all areas of work from design development to production

• Review and react to the market and social trends to identify emerging product opportunities

• Work closely and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including designers, buyers, merchandisers, photography, graphics, and marketing

• Excellent drawing, design and art-working skills

• Computer skills including CAD, Adobe Suite, Photoshop, and Illustrator
