We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Digital Assets and Currencies Risk.

HSBC continues to grow and develop its portfolio of innovative digital assets and currencies (DACs) products to benefit our customers, including tokenised bonds and gold, stablecoins, and tokenised deposits, while navigating an evolving technology, industry and regulatory landscape. The DACs Risk Team within Group ERM are risk SMEs in DACs, and are responsible for ensuring a comprehensive, consistent and robust approach to Risk oversight of DACs across HSBC globally. The team supports the safe adoption of DACs by setting clear enterprise-wide expectations.

They are responsible for the delivery and ongoing oversight of the DACs Risk Framework, including monitoring adherence to the Framework and Risk Appetite. The team conduct and co-ordinate risk assessments for new or materially changed DACs products, to ensure appropriate due diligence and post-launch monitoring. In addition, they coordinate engagement with the 1LOD and across key Risk areas, including conduct, technology, financial crime, legal/ regulatory functions. The team support a consistent leadership narrative on DACs, including to industry and regulators, to enable aligned decision-making across the bank; support and run Risk governance around DACs; and help support understanding of DACs risks across the Group, including via training and guidance.

The role holder will support the delivery and day-to-day oversight of the DACs Risk Framework, translating enterprise expectations into practical controls and monitoring. They will own and executes risk assessments for new or materially changed digital asset products, ensuring proportionate due diligence, clear risk outcomes, and defined post-launch monitoring. Drives cross-functional engagement across stakeholders to resolve issues at pace and support consistent decision-making.

In this role you’ll:

  • Support the embedding of the Digital Assets and Currencies (DACs) Risk Framework across the Group by helping translate policy into practical guidance, minimum control standards and usable artefacts by 1LOD teams.
  • Proactively identify and assess top and emerging DACs risks through horizon scanning, impact analysis, and working with key stakeholders; recommending changes to controls, resourcing or operating model to stay within risk appetite.
  • Partner with global/regional risk stewards, business leads on DACs and control owners to drive consistent consideration of DACs risks and controls, implementation, assess control effectiveness, close gaps and escalate concerns (including for material change programmes).
  • Support and/or chair DACs risk working groups and wider governance, ensuring clear decisions, actions and follow-through, and represent a consolidated Risk view on DACs to senior stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Coordinate regulatory and audit engagement for DACs risk with Compliance and 1LOD, ensuring issues are root-caused, remediated and closed on time—supporting the agenda set by the Global Head of DACs Risk and building stakeholder confidence.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong understanding of DACs risk management within HSBC’s strategic and commercial context, and able to operate effectively within a Three Lines risk management model is essential.
  • Solid knowledge of DACs (for example: regulatory landscape, enabling technologies such as DLT, and/or DAC product functionality).
  • Sound understanding of a financial institution’s business model, products and key risk drivers.
  • Proven DACs risk expertise: ability to identify, assess, monitor and strengthen controls to keep risk within appetite.
  • Confident risk adviser and challenger who promotes a strong risk culture and continuous improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, able to build networks and operate effectively across a multi-location team.
  • Able to grasp complex technical topics quickly and translate them into clear, decision-useful insights.
  • Able to provide expert advice and robust challenge, supporting effective governance and timely decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication produces Executive/Board-ready papers and MI with strong quality control and explains complexity to non-technical audiences.
